SLU Falls at No. 2-Ranked LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 15-2, to No. 2-ranked LSU in non-conference action Tuesday at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
 
LSU (37-9) jumped out in front early over Southeastern (33-12) with back-to-back home runs to open the bottom of the first. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the first and an unearned run in the second.
 
Dane Watts led off the third inning with a solo home run to right-center field. It was the sixth of the season for the native of Hammond, Louisiana.
 
The Lions added another run in the fourth. Mo Little led off the inning with a single to center. One out later, he scored on Lakin Polk's RBI double into the right-center field gap.
 
From that point forward, LSU took control. The Tigers added five runs in the fourth, one more in the fifth and ended the game with a grand slam in the seventh.
 
William Schmidt (7-0) earned the win for LSU, allowing two runs – both earned – in 3.1 innings pitched. He scattered four hits and one walk, striking out seven.
 
Southeastern used five pitchers in the game. Starter Chase Ambrose (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs – three earned – in 1.1 innings pitched.
 
Watts (2-for-3) finished the night with a pair of hits for the Lions.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for its final homestand of the regular season. The Lions will host Lamar in a three-game, Southland Conference series this coming weekend.
 
Games against the Cardinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
Friday's game is Senior Night. SLU will honor its senior class in a pregame ceremony beginning 30 minutes prior to the first pitch. Postgame fireworks are also slated.
 
Baseball bingo cards will be available for fans at Saturday's game. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day. Free general admission tickets to the game are available for active military members who present a valid service ID at the gate.
