BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team earned three podium positions and broke two other school records at the LSU Alumni Gold meet Saturday at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Complex.
The first school record to fall was the women's 3,000-meter run.
Ava Pitarro set that record last season when she ran a 10:39.92 at the Keyth Talley Invitational, which was also at LSU. She blew that mark out of the water on Saturday by stopping the clock in 10:25.91 to reset the top time in school history while earning a fifth-place finish in the competition.
The other school record to fall came at the end of the day's competition in the women's 4x400-meter relay. Just two weeks ago at the Strawberry Relays,
Onyah Favour,
Esther Nwanze,
Miriam Kauer, and
Aneace Scott combined to run a 3:42.07 to break the school mark which had stood for 25 years. It took just two weeks for that mark to fall as the same foursome came together to run a time of 3:40.46 today, resetting the school record while finishing sixth in the competition.
Nwanze did earn a medal on the day, finishing third in the women's 400-meter hurdles competition with a season best time of 57.77 seconds, which gave her the 21
st-fastest time in the NCAA East Region, still well within the mark needed to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships First Round. It also moved her to the 33
rd-fastest time in all of Division I.
Donroy Brown took home Southeastern's best finish of the day in the shot put competition. His first throw proved to be his best as it went 17.91 meters (58'9.25"), the farthest he's tossed the shot so far this season. That was good enough to earn him a second-place finish of the day while also being the highest-finishing college athlete.
Gabriel Lim gave the Lions their final medal of the day in the javelin throw. His first throw of the competition went 58.89 meters (193'2"), which was good enough to earn him a spot in the finals and three extra throws. It was his fifth attempt of the day that would prove to be his best, unleashing a season best toss of 61.71 meters (202'5") which moved him up to third place, cementing him a bronze medal in the day.
Favour set a new personal best in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 52.51 seconds, moving her inside the top-20 in the East Region, moving her will inside the cut line for qualifying for the NCAA East First Round meet. That time is also the 30
th-fastest in all of Division I this season. She finished seventh on the day.
Numerous other Lions set seasons bests today.
Javon-Taye Williams ran his fastest 400-meter dash time of the season at 47.21 seconds.
Gerrit Visser's best throw in the hammer throw competition went 56.83 meters (186'5"), his longest this year.
Lance Hamilton finished just off the medal podium in the triple jump with a season best leap of 14.71 meters (48'3.25").
All three relay teams which competed Saturday also had their fastest times of the year. Aside from the school record-breaking women's 4x400-meter relay team, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Williams,
Josh Anding,
Daniel Atinaya, and
Victory Achakpoekri finished in 3:11.80. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Jaden Bardales,
Olu Ogunyemi,
Kendall Cleveland, and
Alex Gordon stopped the clock in 41.22 seconds.
With all the preliminary meets now complete, the Lions now turn their attention to the 2025 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which runs May 15-17 at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas.
