HAMMOND, La. – Guard Aliyah Collins will continue her academic and athletic endeavors as a member of Southeastern Louisiana University's women's basketball program, Southeastern head coach Jeff Dow announced Thursday morning.
A 5-5 guard from College Station, Texas, Collins, comes to Southeastern with two years of eligibility left. Collins is the first member of the 2025-26 women's basketball signing class as Coach Dow looks to reign in a new era with the green and gold.
The newcomer is no stranger to the Southland Conference, as she spent two seasons under Coach Dow at UIW(2022-24), playing in 55 games with five starts. Collins averaged 9.6 points per game, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest with the Cardinals. In her freshman debut, Collins was a key factor off the bench for UIW, shooting 81.0 percent from the free throw line and ranking second for the Cardinals in steals (34). The rookie posted nine games in double figures with a season high 18 points against East Texas A&M. Collins helped UIW secure a SLC Tournament Championship title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament in the 2022-23 season.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to coach Aliyah again," stated Coach Dow. "She was a dynamic scorer in our two years together at UIW, and oftentimes a 'go-to' player in late games down the stretch."
In her last season with the Cardinals, Collins improved to average 12.2 points per game, 2.5 assists while shooting 30.3 percent from behind the arch. To close out her sophomore campaign, the sixth woman off the bench led UIW in scoring and ranked seventh in the conference. Collins claimed a career high 28 points versus Lamar and closed 18 games in double figures, including three 20-plus point performances. Collins finished the 2023-24 season ranking 10th in the league in three-point field goal percentage to earn All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic Second Team honors. Collins also spent one season at Mercer (2024-25), averaging 7.8 points per game and finishing 52.8 percent from the field before coming to Hammond, America.
