SLU, Islanders Square Off in Southland Series

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team wraps up a four-game road trip this weekend with a Southland Conference series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.
 
Games between Southeastern (26-7, 11-4, SLC) and the Islanders (13-21, 5-10 SLC) are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The Lions enter the weekend tied with McNeese (11-4 SLC), one game behind first-place HCU (12-3 SLC).
 
All three games will be carried on ESPN+. Live stats will be available in the Lions Gameday Experience app and online at www.LionSports.net.
 
Fans can listen to game broadcasts in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles.
 
SLU has won three straight, sweeping a Southland doubleheader against UIW this past Saturday and then defeating Tulane, 7-3, Tuesday in New Orleans, Louisiana to open up the current road trip.
 
The Lions, hitting .299 as a team, rank 16th nationally with 57 home runs. Southeastern also ranks second in the nation in shutouts (6), and fourth in both ERA (3.21) and double plays turned (33).
 
Giovanni Licciardi (.365, 17 RBI), Dane Watts (.361, 3 HR, 22 RBI), Ryan Brome (.358, 11 HR, 29 RBI) and Ben Robichuax (.306, 6 HR, 16 RBI) pace the SLU offense at the plate.
 
Austin Russell (.324, 1 HR, 23 RBI) and Christian Smith-Johnson (.304, 15 RBI) are the leading hitters for A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
The Islanders are coming off a sweep of Stephen F. Austin in a conference series this past weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern kicks off a five-game homestand Tuesday, hosting No. 23-ranked Southern Miss at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Kids 12 and under will be able to stand on the field with their favorite Lion player during the National Anthem.
 
The Lions then host Southland-newcomer UTRGV in a three-game series, April 17-19, before wrapping up the homestand, April 22, against Dillard.
