No-Hitter Highlights Dominant Southeastern Doubleheader Sweep at JSU

SLU (31-8) extends win streak to nine, runs season shutout total to 13

JACKSON, Miss. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team outscored Jackson State, 23-0, in a doubleheader sweep Tuesday evening at the JSU Softball Field.

Southeastern (31-8) extended its win streak to nine games and ran its season shutout total to 13, holding the host Tigers (18-15) that came in hitting .317 as a team to three hits in the two mercy-rule victories.

In the opener, Olivia Henry, Celia Lamkin and Macie LaRue (12-0) combined for the 13th no-hitter in program history in an 11-0 victory. Shelby Morris, Maria Detillier and Kailey Dixon had two hits apiece for SLU, while Mykail Lusco drove in a team-high three runs.

The trio of Hallie Burns (10-3), Lainee Bailey and Britney Lewinski combined for the shutout in the nightcap, as SLU rolled to a 12-0 win. Morris and Dixon each had two hits, while Cydnee Schneider led the Lady Lions with two RBI and Chloe Magee scored a team-high three runs.

The top two teams in the SLC standings will meet this week in North Oak Park, as Southeastern welcomes McNeese for a three-game league series, sponsored by North Oaks Health System. The series starts with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday at North Oak Park. Friday is Youth Travel Ball Night and young Southeastern fans can wear their team jerseys and run the bases following the twin bill. The series wraps with a noon contest Saturday. The series with the Cowgirls can be seen on ESPN+ and heard online at www.LionUpRadio.org.

Game One – Southeastern 11, Jackson State 0 (5 Innings)
Magee and Morris executed a double steal to score SLU's first run, then Magee and Detillier followed with a double steal of their own to double the lead. RBI singles by Brilee Ford and Colleen Kulivan staked Southeastern to a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first inning versus JSU starter Sofia Gonzalez (6-5).

The Lady Lions added to their lead in the top of the second. RBI singles by Morris and Detillier gave SLU a 6-0 advantage.

SLU added to its advantage in the top of the fifth inning, as Lusco doubled home three runs to give Southeastern an 11-0 cushion.

LaRue let the first two JSU batters on in the bottom of the fifth, but struck out the final two to close out the no-hitter – the second for Southeastern in its last three games and the third of the season for the Lady Lions.

Game Two – Southeastern 12, Jackson State 0 (6 Innings)
Southeastern scored off JSU starter Jorgina Gant (5-4) in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. Magee walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a JSU error and scored on an RBI ground out by Ford to take a 1-0 lead.
