SLU Wins Five Medals on Final Day of SLC Championships, Await Invitation to Indoor Nationals for Webb

Day One Recap

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field teams earned five medals on the final day of the 2025 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Southeastern's first medal of the day came on the second individual competition on the track. Olu Ogunyemi bettered his time from the 60-meter hurdles prelims by breaking eight seconds in the Finals, earning the silver medal and eight points in the team competition with a time of 7.99 seconds.
 
Up next was the women's 60-meter sprint, where, a day after breaking the school 200-meter record, Marvellous Asemota earned SLU's first points in the women's competition with a fifth-place finish and four points for the team by crossing the line in 7.58 seconds.
 
The Lady Lions got a good chunk of their team points from the two finalists in the 400-meter dash, Onyah Favour and Esther Nwanze. Favour took the bronze medal, earning six points for the team, by stopping the clock in a season-best time of 54.15 seconds while Nwanze's 55.34 second run was also a season-best time, earning her a fifth-place finish and four points for the team.
 
On the men's side of the 400-meter dash, Javon-Taye Williams brought home a bronze medal and six more points for the Lions, crossing the line in 47.47 seconds to make the podium.
 
In the 200-meter dash, the Lady Lions added six more points from their two finalists, Favour and Asemota. Favour finished fifth and earned four points for the Lady Lions by besting her previous personal best in the discipline and clocking in at 24.35 seconds. A day after breaking the school record in the distance, Asemota finished seventh and got two points for the team with a time of 24.56 seconds.
 
The final points the Lady Lions achieved on the day came in the 4x400-meter relay as Favour, Nwanze, Miriam Kauer, and DaNina Sorapuru combined to stop the clock in 3:44.60, earning Southeastern the silver medal and eight more points.
 
SLU's final points in the men's competition came on the field, specifically the shot put where two Lions got scoring marks. Donroy Brown's second throw of the day went 16.85 meters (55'3.5"), earning him a spot in the Final. In his second set of three throws, he launched a toss of 16.90 meters (55'5.5") to get into third place and win the bronze medal and six points. Josh-Ty Brown earned his second set of three throws as his first toss of the day went 16.08 meters (52'9.25"), putting him through to the Finals. His first throw in the Finals went 16.10 meters (52'10"), good enough for a seventh-place finish and two more points for the Lions overall score.
 
The Lions finished the two-day competition with 35 points, earning a 10th-place finish. The Lady Lions scored 28 points which moved them into ninth-place after the final results were tallied.
 
Southeastern will now await an invite to the NCAA Division I National Indoor Track & Field Championships for Terrell Webb to compete in the weight throw national final. Should he earn the invite, the men's weight throw competition will be held on Fri., March 14 at 6:05 p.m. EST/5:05 p.m. CST. The 2025 NCAA Division I National Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. and will be televised through the ESPN family of networks.
 
The rest of the Lions and Lady Lions now prepare for the start of the outdoor track & field season, which starts on March 15 with the Sean Brady Season Opener at the Southeastern Track Complex.
