Block Party Kicks Off SLU Baseball’s Cole Catalano Night Against Ragin’ Cajuns

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts the Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as part of Cole Catalano Night at the ballpark Wednesday.
 
The annual baseball block party begins at 4:15 p.m. Participants in the Celebration of Life ceremony for Cole Catalano are asked to be in the ballpark by 5:15 p.m. and the game's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Wednesday's game against the Ragin' Cajuns (9-12) is slated to be carried on ESPN+. Live stats will be available in the Lions Gameday Experience app and online at www.LionSports.net/BaseballStats.
 
Fans can listen to game broadcasts in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles. Search for KSLU 90.9 FM in the TuneIn app.
 
SLU (16-3), which has won five straight, comes into the week leading the nation in shutouts (4) while ranking second in double plays turned (22), seventh in ERA (3.07), ninth in home runs (40) and 10th with a .574 slugging percentage.
 
Hitting .318 as a team, the Lions are led at the plate by Dane Watts (.453, 2 HR, 13 RBI), Ryan Brome (.386, 9 HR, 21 RBI), Conner O'Neal (.333, 5 HR, 13 RBI) and TJ Salvaggio (.316, 5 HR, 19 RBI).
 
Right-hander Luke Lirette (0-1, 7.94) draws the starting nod for the Lions on the mound in the series opener. The junior from Houma, Louisiana will be opposed by Ragin' Cajun freshman right-hander Aidan Grab (0-0, 2.84).
 
Brooks Wright (.333, 14 RBI), Conor Higgs (.319, 6 HR, 11 RBI) and Jose Torres (.303, 1 HR, 11 RBI) pace UL Lafayette at the plate.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns dropped two of three games this past weekend at home to No. 21-ranked Troy.

Southeastern returns to Southland Conference play this weekend against McNeese. Games against the Cowboys are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Friday's game is All Abilities Night. Saturday's game will feature Baseball Bingo while Sunday is Military Appreciation Day. Free general admission tickets are available Sunday for active military members who present a valid service ID at the gate.
