HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts Xavier (OH) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Both teams entered the week ranked in the RPI Top 25.
 
In addition to the No. 2-rated RPI, Xavier (7-9) has played the toughest schedule in the nation to this point of the season. The Musketeers face LSU (16-1) Tuesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before heading to Hammond for Wednesday's contest at No. 23-rated RPI Southeastern (12-3).
 
Before Wednesday's game, kids age 12 and under will be able to stand on the field with their favorite Lion player during the National Anthem.

SLU, which won two out of three games in a non-conference series at Memphis this past weekend, comes into the game leading the nation in double plays turned (20) while ranking third in shutouts (3) and ninth in home runs (31).
 
Hitting .307 as a team, the Lions are led at the plate by Dane Watts (.421, 1 HR, 10 RBI), Ryan Brome (.370, 6 HR, 14 RBI), Conner O'Neal (.344, 5 HR, 10 RBI), TJ Salvaggio (.322, 3 HR, 15 RBI) and Ben Robichaux (.310, 3 HR, 7 RBI).
 
The Musketeers will wrap up a 21-game road trip to open the season this coming weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana with a non-conference series at Tulane. They dropped all four games this past week, including a midweek contest at Tennessee and a weekend series at Vanderbilt.
 
Jake Lambdin (.357, 4 RBI) and Carter Hendrickson (.321, 3 HR, 15 RBI) are Xavier's leading hitters.
 
Wednesday's game marks the second matchup in series history. SLU defeated the Musketeers, 7-6, in Hammond on March 14, 1992.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to Southland Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Stephen F. Austin. Games are scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Friday, 3:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.
 
It marks the first matchup on the diamond between the two schools since SLU swept a four-game conference series from the Lumberjacks, April 17-18, 2021 in Nacogdoches.
