HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will open its five-week spring practice session Tuesday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.
 
The Lions will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:15 a.m. through April 12. The annual Spring Showcase is set for April 5 as part of Super Lion Saturday.
 
Southeastern is coming off a 7-5 season that saw the Lions finish 6-1 overall in Southland Conference play. Eighth-year head coach Frank Scelfo is excited for his team to take the next steps in the evaluation process for the 2025 season.
 
"We're replacing some vital players on both sides of the ball, so spring will be the first step in identifying who is ready to step up into a bigger role," Scelfo commented. "We have a good mix of newcomers and veteran returners at every position, so we're excited to see how those guys compete over the next five weeks.
 
"We're excited to see how guys evolve and how we come together as a team," Scelfo continued. "We want to see guys start to develop relationships and we as a coaching staff have to make sure we're putting guys in the right places to be successful."
 
While Scelfo and his staff will be beginning to mold the 2025 Lions this spring, he acknowledges the current roster and the roster that SLU will kickoff with in August may be different.
 
"There's a lot of uncertainty with some of the new rules that are coming into play in terms of roster limitations," Scelfo commented. "We still have another transfer portal period to get through, so a big part of spring ball is making sure you have the right guys at every position. It's certainly a brave new world in college athletics."
 
SLU will open the 2025 season Aug. 30 at Louisiana Tech.
