BATON ROUGE, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team earned a 10-1 run-rule win over Charlotte on the second day of the Tiger Classic Saturday at Tiger Park.
Southeastern (1-2) avenged a 5-1 loss to the reigning American Athletic Conference Niners (1-2) on the way to its first win of the young 2025 season.
Maria Detillier led SLU at the plate with four RBI, while
Chloe Magee added two of her own.
Shenita Tucker scored a team-high three runs, while
Shelby Morris came home to score twice for Southeastern.
Macie LaRue (1-0) went the distance in the circle for the Lady Lions to earn her first win in the green and gold. After allowing the first two baserunners to reach, LaRue settled down, holding Charlotte to three hits and striking out four in the win.
SLU took the lead without the benefit of a hit in its half of the first inning. Tucker drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on a Magee sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI groundout by Detillier to stake SLU to a 1-0 lead versus Charlotte starter Abby Gawlinski (0-1).
Southeastern chased Gawlinski from the game in the second.
Cydnee Schneider reached on an error and was replaced by
Brilee Broussard on the base paths. Broussard promptly stole second, then scored on a single by
Colleen Kulivan.
After Kulivan was thrown out trying to steal, SLU embarked on a two-out rally.
Kailey Dixon singled, stole second and scored when Morris reached on a two-base throwing error.
After a Tucker walk, Magee singled home Morris, then Detillier cleared the bases with a two-run double, capping a five-run frame that saw Southeastern send 10 to the plate and take a commanding 6-0 advantage.
SLU added to its lead with another big inning in the third. Schneider led off the frame with a single, then moved to second when Kulivan worked an 11-pitch walk. One out later, Charlotte reliever Avery Shamblin hit Morris to load the bases.
Schneider would score when Tucker reached on an error. An RBI groundout by Magee plated another run, then RBI singles by Detillier and
Maddie Watson staked the Lady Lions to a 10-0 lead.
A solo home run to lead off the fourth by Jenna Lord helped Charlotte avoid the shutout, Aided by a diving catch by Kulivan, LaRue sat the Niners down in order in the fifth to secure the mercy-rule win.
