HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team will look to finish a second Southland Conference season series sweep in one game while attempting to earn a split in another as the Lions head to Texas to complete the home-and-home sets with Incarnate Word and Houston Christian on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
Saturday's game between the Lions (14-9, 8-4 SLC) and Cardinals (11-12, 4-8 SLC) is scheduled for 5 p.m. from the Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center in San Antonio while Monday's game against the Huskies (10-13, 7-5 SLC) will tip-off at 7 p.m. from Sharp Gymnasium in Houston.
Both games will be televised on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast also available for both, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org, or you can listen to the game on smart devices through the Lions Gameday Experience app or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available through the host institution.
Southeastern opens the week's action in a four-way tie for second place in the Southland standings with the Lions having won two-straight games and eight of their last nine contests.
In its last contest, SLU earned a gritty, 81-79 win over Lamar which moved both teams into the current four-way tie for second place in the SLC standings along with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls.
Jakevion Buckley finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the win over the Lamar Cardinals.
Sam Hines, Jr. finished with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals while
Jeremy Elyzee added 14 points, four rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
Jaiden Lawrence added 10 points in the win.
Brody Rowbury was one point off of a double-double, putting in nine points, while setting two new career highs in rebounds, 15, and assists, four.
Hines, Jr. continues to be Southeastern's leader in scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 boards per contest. He hits 50.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. He also averages 2.1 assists per game while being second on the team in blocks on the year with 12.
Buckley scores 13.1 points per game on 45.1 percent shooting while leading the Lions in assists, with 4.1 per game, and steals, with 1.9 per game.
After his 14-point outing against Lamar, Elyzee is back into double-digits in scoring this season, averaging exactly 10 points per contest. He hits 48.5 percent from the field and grabs 4.8 rebounds a contest while leading Southeastern in blocked shots with 16 on the year.
Rowbury's averaging 7.6 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting while grabbing 5.7 rebounds a game.
Kam Burton leads the team in made three-point field goals, having hit 40 on the year. He's a 35.7 percent shooter from outside and 39.3 percent overall.
Carlos Paez, who's hit 29 three-pointers this season, connects on 47.5 percent of his three-point attempts and 45.7 percent on all of his field goal attempts taken this year.
Southeastern averages 72.6 points per game while hit 45 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc this season. The Lions are giving up 68.9 points per game while opponents hit 42.6 percent overall and 30.8 percent on three-point attempts against SLU this season.
UIW, which won two-straight after falling 86-63 to the Lions in Hammond two weeks ago, is coming off of a tough, 67-65 loss to McNeese in Lake Charles on Monday.
In the loss to the Cowboys, the Cardinals were led by Jalin Anderson, who scored 15 points with four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Davion Bailey and Jordan Pyke both finished with 14 points with Pyke grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out two assists, and blocking a shot while Bailey grabbed two rebounds, doled out two assists, blocked a shot, and came up with a steal.
Bailey is UIW's top scorer on the year, averaging 17.2 points per game on 43.8 percent shooting. He's hot 82 three-point field goals this season, hitting at a 39.5 percent clip from deep.
Anderson averages 14.3 points per game, hitting 40.5 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range. He's UIW's top distributor, averaging 5.3 assists per contest, and is tied with Bailey for the team lead in steals as both have 31 this year.
Dylan Hayman averages 13.3 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting and 44.3 percent from beyond the arc while grabbing 5.1 rebounds a game.
Pyke scores 11.7 points each time out on 60.3 percent shooting and 44.8 percent from long range while grabbing a team-best 5.7 rebounds a game.
Jayden Williams, who averages 4.9 points per game on 67.8 percent shooting, leads the Cardinals in blocked shots this season, rejecting 1.6 opposing shots per contest. He secures 4.9 rebounds a game as well.
The Cardinals average 75.5 points per game while hitting 48.3 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc this season. UIW's opponents average 69.8 points per game while connecting on 45.2 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from three-point range against the Cardinals on the year.
Houston Christian enters its home game Saturday against New Orleans on a two-game losing streak since coming to Hammond and upending the Lions, 70-62, two weeks ago, including a 74-64 loss to UIW.
The Huskies held an 11-point lead, 38-27, at halftime against Nicholls, but struggled in the second half of their most recent contest and fell to the Colonels, 75-67, Monday night in Thibodaux.
Bryson Dawkins led HCU against Nicholls on Monday with 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists against the Colonels.
Julian Mackey finished the game with 11 points, two assists, and a steal.
Elijah Brooks ended the game against Nicholls with 10 points and three rebounds.
Bench production for the Huskies came from D'Aundre Samuels, who scored nine points and had six rebounds, and Porter Bazil, who scored eight points, grabbed a rebound, and blocked a shot on Monday night.
Mackey is HCU's top scorer on the season, averaging 15 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting and 38.1 percent on three-point attempts on the season. He's hit a team-best 51 three-pointers during the season.
Dawkins puts in 13.5 points per game while hitting 41.4 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from deep on the season. He also grabs 4.8 rebounds per contest.
Peyton Rogers is HCU's top rebounder, grabbing 5.6 boards, and shot blocker, blocking 0.9 shots per contest, while scoring 4.2 points on 42.7 percent shooting.
Brooks is the top distributor for the Huskies, averaging 2.3 assists per contest. He scores 9.6 points on 49.1 percent shooting and grabs 3.9 rebounds a game.
The Huskies average 68 points per game while hitting 43.2 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc on the year. HCU's opponents score 70.9 points per game while hitting 47.7 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from three-point range in 2024-25.
Following this brief trip into Texas, the Lions return to Hammond, America for another four-game homestand, which starts a week from Saturday against Nicholls.
