SLU Announces 2025 Schedule

Southeastern visits Louisiana Tech, Murray State, LSU, McNeese, HCU, Lamar and UIW; SLU hosts MVSU, UTRGV, Northwestern State, East Texas A&M and Nicholls

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team announced its 2025 schedule Tuesday in conjunction with the Southland Conference releasing the eight-game conference slate for all 10 football-playing institutions.

Southeastern, which finished 7-5 overall and 6-1 in SLC play in 2024, will open its 12-game slate with an Aug. 30 trip to Louisiana Tech. The in-state foes will be meeting for the 38th time in school history. The Lions last made the trek to Ruston in 2021 with the hosts holding off SLU's upset bid, 45-42.

SLU will be back on the road for week two, traveling to Murray State for a Sept. 6 matchup. The contest will complete a home-and-home series between the Lions and the Racers, as Southeastern earned a 48-14 victory early in the 2022 SLC championship season.

The Lions open their home slate with a Sept. 13 game versus Mississippi Valley State, which will be in its first season under head coach and former NFL cornerback Terrell Buckley. SLU will be facing the Delta Devils for the third time in program history after sweeping a home-and-home series during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

The home opener will double as the Hall of Fame Game, as the 2025 Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at the 2025 North Oaks Health System Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet the night before. The inductees will be recognized at halftime of the SLU-MVSU nonconference contest.

SLU will close out nonconference play with a Sept. 20 contest at LSU. The Lions and Tigers will be meeting for the first time since 2018, when the Lions dropped a 31-0 decision to an LSU team quarterbacked by first-year starter Joe Burrow.

Southeastern will open its league schedule at home, welcoming UTRGV for a Sept. 27 contest in Strawberry Stadium. The Vaqueros will be in their inaugural season and will be in Hammond for its first-ever Southland Conference game.

The Lions will open the road portion of its conference slate with an Oct. 4 trip to Lake Charles to take on McNeese. The all-time series between the Lions and Cowboys is tied, 25-25, while SLU has won the last five meetings.

After a bye week, Southeastern returns home for Homecoming, hosting Northwestern State in Strawberry Stadium. SLU has faced no opponent more often than the Demons, who they have defeated 14 consecutive times to take a 40-29 lead in the all-time series.

SLU returns to the road Oct. 25, heading to HCU for a league matchup. Southeastern improved to 8-1 all-time versus the Huskies with a 37-7 road victory last fall.

East Texas A&M visits Hammond Nov. 1 for a Battle of the Lions in Strawberry Stadium. SLU defeated the then-Texas A&M-Commerce, 21-9, last October to take a 6-5-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Southeastern closes out its regular season road schedule over the following two weeks against a pair of Cardinals. The Lions will be in Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar Nov. 8. SLU is 14-5 all-time versus LU after last season's 30-27 overtime win.

The Lions visit defending SLC champion UIW Nov. 15. Southeastern will be looking for its first win in San Antonio since 2016.

The River Bell Classic closes the regular season, when Nicholls comes to town for Senior Day Nov. 20 in Hammond. Southeastern's 19-16 win last November in Thibodaux gave the Lions a slight 18-17 advantage over the Colonels in the all-time series.

Each SLC member does not play one other team in 2025, as SLU and Stephen F. Austin do not match up. Other conference pairs that don't face one another this fall include Nicholls and East Texas A&M, UTRGV and Northwestern State, McNeese and UIW, as well as Lamar and HCU.

Southeastern will open spring practice March 11 to begin official preparations for the 2025 season.
