SLU Opens Southland Conference Play, Hosts Northwestern State in Three-Game Series

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team opens its Southland Conference slate this weekend, hosting Northwestern State in a three-game series Friday through Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
Friday's game is Youth Sports Night. Youth sports teams (8th grade and under) wearing their jersey to the game will receive free admission. They will also be able to stand on the field with their favorite Lion player during the National Anthem. Saturday's game will feature Baseball Bingo while Sunday is Military Appreciation Day. Free general admission tickets are available Sunday for active military members who present a valid service ID at the gate.
 
All three games against Northwestern State (4-4) will be carried on ESPN+. Live stats will be available in the Lions Gameday Experience app and online at www.LionSports.net/BaseballStats.
 
Fans can listen to game broadcasts in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles. Search for KSLU 90.9 FM in the TuneIn app.
 
SLU (7-2) dropped its last game, 9-7, Wednesday at UL Lafayette after sweeping a three-game series from Alcorn State. The Lions are hitting .333 as a team and rank fifth nationally with 18 home runs.
 
Dane Watts (.579, 1 HR, 9 RBI), Ryan Brome (.467, 5 HR, 9 RBI), TJ Salvaggio (.364, 8 RBI) and Mo Little (.364, 3 HR, 8 RBI) pace SLU at the plate.
 
Right-hander Brennan Stuprich (2-0, 0.00) draws the starting nod for the Lions on the mound in the series opener. Northwestern State will counter with freshman left-hander Carter White (1-0, 4.05).
 
Reese Lipoma (.448, 5 RBI), Hudson Brignac (.385, 2 RBI), Samuel Stephenson (.348, 2 HR, 8 RBI) and Daniel Burroway (.304, 3 HR, 12 RBI) are the Demons' leading hitters.
 
Northwestern State is coming off a pair of mid-week wins over Southern-New Orleans, 14-3, and Alcorn State, 10-5, after being swept in a three-game series at No. 24-ranked Troy.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to the road for a four-game road trip. The Lions travel to Oxford, Mississippi for a non-conference contest Tuesday at No. 24-ranked Ole Miss. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
 
The Lions wrap up the trip with a three-game series at Memphis. Games are scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Friday, 2:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field in Memphis, Tennessee.

The 2025 edition of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Bobby Barbier debuts March 10 and will air live each Monday at 5 p.m. from WiseGuys Daiquiris in Hammond. Barbier joins co-host Allen Waddell for the 60-minute radio show, talking about the latest in Southeastern baseball.
