HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will return to action on the road for its final pair of Southland Conference games against UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Southeastern (24-3, 18-0 SLC) will visit Edinburg, Texas to face UTRGV (16-13, 11-7 SLC) Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. to open week ten of conference play. SLU will move forward in a rematch against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-15, 5-12 SLC) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. to close out the regular season.

SLU made history to finish week nine of league play to outright claim the Southland Conference regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2025 Jersey Mike's SLC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship. SLU also broke a program record for the longest winning streak in Lady Lion basketball with 18 consecutive wins. The Lady Lions posted a 65-58 victory over Northwestern State before securing a 75-55 win over East Texas A&M for their last two conference games at home.
Four Lady Lions ended in double figures in their most recent victory over East Texas A&M to claim their tenth game by 20 points or more.
Allasia Washington led all scorers with 15 points against the Lions, with four steals and four rebounds. Washington shot 50.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three-point line and 100.0 percent from the charity stripe to provide a spark off the bench.
Alexius Horne and
Kaili Chamberlin tied with 13 points to fuel a second half run for Southeastern. Horne shot three-of-eight from the field, two-of-three from the field, and five-of-six from the free throw line against East Texas A&M. Chamberlin recorded a career high in scoring while gaining three rebounds and two steals.
Tyreona Sibley followed up with 11 points and seven rebounds to lead the team on the boards. The freshman finished five-of-eight from the field and one-of-one from the stripe while also claiming three steals and two assists.
Southeastern seeks to continue to extend its 18-game winning streak to close out the regular season led by Horne averaging 14.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. SLU also heavily relies on the production of
Cheyanne Daniels (8.6 ppg),
Taylor Bell (8.0 ppg),
Jalencia Pierre (7.5 ppg), and
Lexi Alexander (7.0 ppg). Horne remains among the top competitors in the conference, ranking third in scoring and second in field goal percentage (46.6). Pierre leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.48) while standing second in assists (4.04) and third in steals (2.07). The Lady Lions tie for fourth in the country in points allowed (52.52), and lead in the Southland Conference in scoring defense, steals (11.33), turnover margin (+7.93), and assist/turnover ratio (1.04).
UTRGV extended its five-game winning streak with victories over McNeese and Nicholls on the road. In its recent win, the Vaqueros defeated the Colonels 59-50 led by Kade Hackerott with 17 points and eight rebounds. UTRGV moved up to fourth in the conference and leads the league in defensive rebound percentage (73.6). The Vaqueros also rank second in three-point field goal percentage defense (27.1), rebounding offense (40.41), and assists (14.28). UTRGV has consistently been led by Hackerott, averaging 13.2 points per game, 6.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists. The Wichita, Kansas native has also claimed 20 games in double figures this season.
The Vaqueros also heavily rely on the production of Charlotte O'Keefe, averaging 10.7 points per game, 12.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks this season. O'Keefe has finished 19 games in double digits with a season high 23 points against McNeese earlier this
season. The junior has also claimed 14 double-doubles and currently holds a four-game streak earning a double-double. O'Keefe leads the conference in rebounding, offensive rebounds (4.38), and defensive rebounds (7.86). Gianna Angiolet (9.9 ppg) is the third leading scorer for UTRGV and averages 2.7 rebounds with 1.8 assists this season.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended week nine of conference play 1-1 with a 59-44 victory over Nicholls, before falling 69-60 to McNeese on the road. The Islanders lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (35.2), stand third in scoring defense (57.25) and rebounding offense (40.07). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is led by Paige Allen, averaging 10.6 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals. Allen has ended 18 games in double figures this season with five double-doubles. Mireia Aguado is another key contributor for the Islanders, adding in 10.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists. The senior Tymberlin Criswell chips in 7.5 points per game for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Concluding Saturday's contest, SLU will have a week off to prepare for the SLC Championship Tournament set for March 10-13 in Lake Charles, La. The tournament will be held at the Legacy Center. Both games versus UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be televised on ESPN+
