SLU (2-7) is set for its final non-conference matchup of the regular season

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will end non-conference play when the team faces No. 2 Texas Sunday, in Austin, Texas.

Southeastern is visiting an undefeated Texas Longhorns squad for the second game of its two-game non-conference slate after falling to Memphis, 70-66, in the University Center Saturday.

The Lady Lions led by a dozen points at halftime of Saturday's game against Memphis. The Tigers managed to come away with the game behind a strong third quarter, holding off SLU's best efforts to take the game in the fourth quarter.

Lihi Azouri led the Lady Lions in scoring in Saturday's loss, posting 22 points against Memphis. Natalie Huff (14) and Aliyah Collins (13) also notched double-digit scoring marks in the game. Collins remains SLU's scoring average leader with 13.6 points per contest, but both Azouri (11.9) and Huff (10) are averaging a double-figure mark.

With the Lady Lions down multiple players, Southeastern has split rebounding duties. In SLU's last contest, Azouri was the team's rebounding leader with seven boards against Memphis. Taylor Wilkins brought in five rebounds, while Collins and Aisha Marten-Coney each contributed four.

The undefeated Texas Longhorns have been among the best teams in the nation. Texas has five student-athletes averaging in double-figures on the offensive end of the floor. Madison Booker is the team's leader in scoring with 18.7 points per game. The reigning SEC Player of the Year posted a season-high 28 points against Northwestern State in a 96-38 contest. Jordan Lee (15), Aaliyah Crump (13.2), Kyla Oldacre (11.3), and Justice Carlton (10) have also been effective offensively, each averaging a double-digit scoring mark.

Booker is also the team's leader on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. Oldacre is not far behind in that category, reeling in 6.2 rebounds per game. Booker has also been effective at forcing turnovers with a team-leading 38 steals in 14 games.

Texas is currently undefeated, having most recently gotten a 70-51 win in a visit to South Dakota State.

SLU and Texas have only matched up three times since their first matchup in 1977. Texas leads the series, 2-1, winning the most recent matchup between the two teams, 73-65, during the 2011-12 season in Austin, Texas.

The Lady Lions will end the two-game road trip with a visit to SLC opponent Incarnate Word Wednesday, Dec. 31, in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion, online at either www.LionSports.net/listenlive or www.LionUpRadio.org, via the following apps – Lions Gameday Experience, Live365, iHeart, Audacy, TuneIn and MyTuner Radio - or on Alexa speakers (skill must be enabled first).
