Lihi Azouri Wins SLC Player of the Week

SLU freshman Lihi Azouri won her first SLC Player of the Week award after scoring 29 points in a win Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University's freshman guard Lihi Azouri was announced as the Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday.

The freshman from Herzliya, Gush Dan, Israel had a strong performance in SLU's win over Southland Conference opponent East Texas A&M Saturday in the University Center. In the third game of her collegiate career, Azouri scored a career-high 29 points against the Lions. In 36 minutes of play, Azouri shot 10-for-17 from the field, going 5-for-7 from three-point range. She led Southeastern to its first conference win of the season, also gathering seven rebounds in the game.

Coach Jeff Dow spoke highly of Azouri after Saturday's win. "She is a true, as they say, three-level scorer. She can get to the rim, she can shoot the pull-up, and she can obviously shoot threes as well," said Dow. "[She is] certainly a big part of what we accomplished on the offensive end."

With no returners from the previous season, Azouri is the first and only student-athlete on the Lady Lions to earn the SLC Player of the Week award. Through three games, Azouri is SLU's leader in points per game, averaging 15.3 this season, ranking fourth in the conference. The freshman also paces the Lady Lions in three-point percentage, averaging 53.8% from beyond the arc, leading the SLC among student-athletes with at least 10 attempts. Azouri's 29-point performance is also the most points scored in a single game by any Southland player this season.

The Lady Lions will visit Baylor, Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Waco, Texas, at 7 p.m. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
