HAMMOND, La. – After helping the two-time reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team to a pair of league wins, Lady Lions Kyra McKelvey and India Bennett earned SLC Player of the Week honors in an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
 
McKelvey was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, having previously claimed the honor Sept. 1. Bennett was tabbed the SLC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season as she was previously honored Sept. 8 and Sept. 29.
 
McKelvey averaged 5.00 kills per set and hit .431 during SLU's two wins last week. The Navarre, Florida native opened the week with 15 kills in a 3-0 victory over UIW, hitting .370 in the road sweep that broke a tie between the Lady Lions and Cardinals for third place.
 
Versus a HCU team that came in a match behind Southeastern in the standings, she added another 15-kill performance in a 3-0 SLU triumph, hitting .500 in the convincing win. McKelvey currently ranks among the Southland leaders in hitting percentage (.362, 2^nd), kills per set (3.87, 2^nd) and points per set (4.16, 3^rd).
 
Bennett averaged 2.00 blocks per set for the week, while also averaging 3.00 kills per set and hitting .412 for the week. Her eight blocks in Wednesday's win at UIW were tied for the most by a SLC player in a three-set match this fall and the Prairieville, Louisiana native also added eight kills.
 
In the home win over the Huskies, she and McKelvey tied for team-high honors with four blocks, while posting 10 kills. Bennett is currently third in Division I with a league-high 1.68 blocks per set and also is tied for eighth nationally with 111 totals blocks.
 
McKelvey, Bennett and the Lady Lions (16-6, 8-2 SLC) return to action Tuesday, traveling to New Orleans for a 6:30 p.m. contest. The match versus the Privateers will be televised on ESPN+.
