HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team will play in-state and conference foe New Orleans twice in the coming week.
SLU (16-6, 8-2 SLC) and New Orleans (7-16, 2-8 SLC) will start the week in the Big Easy for a league match Tuesday, before heading back to Hammond Thursday. First serve for both matches is set for 6:30 p.m. and both matches will be televised on ESPN+.
Thursday's match can also be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. Thursday is also Greek and Student Organization Night in the University Center.
With six matches remaining, Southeastern is currently in sole possession of third place in the league standings. SLU is a match behind SLC co-leaders SFA and UTRGV.
Offensively, Southeastern is second in the Southland in both kills (13.51) and assists (12.23) per set.
Kyra McKelvey leads the Lady Lions and ranks second in the SLC with 3.87 kills per set and a .362 hitting percentage.
Alexis Logarbo is second on the team with 2.36 kills per set, while ranking fifth in the SLC with a .316 hitting percentage.
India Bennett (2.18),
Ayla Klingenberg (1.90) and Abby Bailey (1.57) are the other team leaders in terms of kills per set.
Ashley Richardson (6.11) and
Peyton Stokley (5.64) are the assist leaders for SLU.
Southeastern leads the Southland Conference with 2.52 team blocks per set. Bennett leads the league with 1.68 blocks per set, while Logarbo (0.92) and Klingenberg (0.71) have also been effective.
Lexi Gonzalez leads the team with 3.94 digs per set.
New Orleans will be looking to snap a four-match skid this week. Courtney Roundtree (2.54 kills per set) and Laura Piva (2.53 kills per set) lead the Privateer attack. Defne Eciroglu (7.04 assists per set), Vanae Sapp (2.73 digs per set) and Akeir Scales (0.75 blocks per set) are the other team leaders for UNO.
Thursday's match versus the Privateers opens a three-match home stand for SLU. Southeastern welcomes Lamar to the UC for a 6:30 p.m. match Nov. 6. The match versus the Cardinals will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. The Nov. 8 match will also feature Camp Reunion Night, as SLU volleyball campers can wear their camp t-shirts and be recognized at the match.
