SLU Welcomes HCU for Alumni Day

Southeastern (15-6, 7-2 SLC) to recognize former letterwinners in conjunction with Saturday's noon match

HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team will return home to host HCU for a noon match Saturday in the University Center.

Saturday's match between SLU (15-6, 7-2 SLC) and the visiting Huskies (11-11, 6-3 SLC) can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. Saturday is also Alumni Day in the UC and former Lady Lions in attendance will be recognized.

Southeastern is coming off a 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 road win at UIW to move into sole possession of third place in the SLC standings – one match behind league co-leaders UTRGV and SFA. Kyra McKelvey led all players with 15 kills while India Bennett added eight kills and eight blocks in the win for SLU.

McKelvey has vaulted to second in the Southland in both hitting percentage (.356) and kills per set (3.82). Alexis Logarbo (2.34), Bennett (2.13), Anne Brauckmiller (1.90) and Abby Bailey (1.57) fuel a balanced attack, as Southeastern leads the league with 13.53 kills per set.

SLU is also the only team with multiple players in the SLC top 10 for assists per set, as Ashley Richardson (6.13, 8th) and Peyton Stokley (5.58, 10th) have effectively split setting duties throughout the season. Richardson reached 1,000 career assists in Wednesday's victory and Stokley is 19 assists away from reaching the same milestone.

Bennett continues to lead the Southland and has climbed to third in Division I with 1.70 blocks per set, while her 107 total blocks are sixth nationally. Logarbo (67 blocks) and Ayla Klingenberg (46) have also contributed to SLU's league-leading 2.53 team blocks per set. Lexi Gonzalez is fifth in the SLC with 3.94 digs per set.

HCU snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over New Orleans Tuesday. Allana Archie leads the team with 3.01 kills per set and a .311 hitting percentage, as she is one of five Huskies averaging over two kills per set. Peyton Fadal (9.93 assists per set) and Bianca Byerly (3.39 digs per set) are the other team leaders for Saturday's visitors.

Following this week's action, Southeastern will play back-to-back matches next week versus league and in-state foe New Orleans. The first match of the home-and-home will be in the Big Easy Tuesday with first serve set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
