No. 19 LIons Travel to HCU

SLU (5-2, 3-0 SLC) looks to continue undefeated Southland start Saturday at 2 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The No. 19 Southeastern Louisiana University football team will look to continue its winning ways Saturday, traveling to HCU for a 2 p.m. Southland Conference contest in Husky Stadium.
 
The contest between SLU (5-2, 3-0 SLC) and the host Huskies (2-5, 1-2 SLC) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard live on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
 
Southeastern carries a three-game winning streak into its trip to Space City. The Lions continued their undefeated start to Southland Confernce play with 49-0 victory over Northwestern State last Saturday. SLU has posted shutouts in back-to-back games - the first time the Lions have posted consecutive shutout wins in the same season since 1960.
 
SLU is averaging 34.7 points and 394.9 yards per game offensively, including 46.6 points per game versus FCS competition. Carson Camp (69-for-105, 918 yards, 8 TD, 2 INT) and Kyle Lowe (45-for-63, 612 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT) have been effective leaders for the offense, splitting time at quarterback.
 
Jaylon Domingeaux (26 catches, 386 yards, 6 TD) is the Lions' top target in the passing game. Lowe (300 yards, 4 TD), Calvin Smith Jr. (279 yards, 1 TD), Deantre Jackson (229 yards, 5 TD) and Jaedon Henry (203 yards, 4 TD) are the team's top contributers in the run game.
 
The Lion defense is allowing 301.7 yards and 19.7 points per contest, including 11.6 points in its five FCS games. KK Reno leads SLU with 57 tackles, while Kaleb Proctor has a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.
 
Ian Conerly-Goodly and Khamron Ford each have intercepted two passes for SLU. Zach Johnson has broken up a team-high seven passes.
 
On special teams, Brandon Hayes is averaing a Southland-best 28.0 yards per kickoff return, while D'Khai Joseph is averaging 11.3 yards per punt return. Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez is 4-for-6 on field goals and hasn't missed a PAT this fall.
 
HCU will be looking to bounce back from a 27-0 loss at McNeese last Saturday. Both of HCU's victories this fall have come at home.
 
The Huskies are averaging 286.4 yards and 19.4 points per contest heading into Saturday's contest. HCU features the Southland's leading rusher by a wide margin in Xai'Shaun Edwards, who has rushed for 755 yards and an SLC-high eight touchdowns.
 
Jake Weir (88-for-171 758 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT) has handled the majority of the quarterback duties for the Huskies. Deuce McMillan (20 catches, 175 yards, 1 TD) and Ja'Ryan Wallace (20-243, 2 TD are the top receivers for HCU.
 
The Husky defense is allowing 332.9 yards and 25.1 points per game this fall. Rodney Dansby has a team-high 49 tackles, while Tyran Chappell leads HCU with three interceptions.
 
Saturday will be the 10th meeting between the Lions and the Huskies. SLU leads the series, 8-1, and has won all four previous games in Houston.
 
Following the game with HCU, Southeastern will return home to host East Texas A&M for a 6 p.m. SLC contest Nov. 1 in Strawberry Stadium. The Battle of the Lions will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).  
 
Saturday's game with East Texas A&M will feature Military Appreciation and Family Night at Strawberry Stadium.
