HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University senior defensive lineman
Kaleb Proctor and senior offensive lineman
Holden Kareokowsky represented the Lions on the Phil Steele FCS Midseason All-America teams released Wednesday.
Proctor was a first team choice on the defensive line, while Kareokowsky was a fourth team offensive line selection.
Proctor, an Oak Grove, Louisiana native, has been a force from his defensive tackle spot for a Lion defense that is holding FCS opponents to 14.5 points per contest. Through the first half of the season, Proctor leads SLU with six tackles for loss and four sacks – highlighted by a two-sack performance at FBS power LSU.
The All-America nod was not the only midseason recognition Proctor received this week. NCAA.com announced its top FCS players at each position and Proctor was one of two picks at interior defensive line, touting the Lion standout as not only one of the top FCS defensive linemen, but one of the top FCS NFL prospects. Kareokowsky has anchored a Southeastern offensive line that has helped a SLU attack that is averaging 46.0 points per game in FCS games. The New Orleans, Louisiana native has started four games at center through the season.
Proctor was the lone Southland Conference player on the NCAA.com midseason list of best players at each position. Proctor and Kareokowsky were joined on the Phil Steele midseason All-America teams by SFA defensive back Charles Demmings, linebacker Jaydon Southard and offensive lineman Jake Henry, Lamar punt returner Kyndon Fuselier, UIW offensive lineman Traveon Newsome and UTRGV defensive back Elijah Graham.
Proctor, Kareokowsky and No. 22 SLU (4-2, 2-0 SLC) will start the second half of the regular season Saturday, welcoming Northwestern State to Strawberry Stadium for the 4 p.m. Homecoming game. Saturday's contest will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM). The annual Homecoming parade will roll at 11:30 a.m. and the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime of Saturday's game with the Demons.
