HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will return to action to open week three of Southland Conference play on the road against Stephen F. Austin Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Thursday's game between Southeastern (10-3, 4-0 SLC) and SFA (13-2, 3-1 SLC) will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats for both games, provided by the hosts, can be accessed on the women's basketball schedule page at

SLU will move on to face the New Orleans Privateers (0-12, 0-3 SLC) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. while seeking to continue to hold its position at the top of the conference with its four-game winning streak. Saturday's contest will also be streamed on ESPN+.
The Lady Lions finished week two of league play 2-0 with victories over UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In its most recent win, Southeastern defeated the Islanders 75-62 in the University Center to remain undefeated on its home court so far this season. SLU dominated the majority of the game with only one lead change as it gained 40 points in the paint, 28 bench points and 23 points off turnovers. The Lady Lions closed out with a solid performance, shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from the three-point line and 73.3 percent from the stripe. Two Lady Lions finished with 20+ points as
Alexius Horne led all scorers with 23 points and six assists.
Taylor Bell followed up with a season high 21 points and seven rebounds while
Cheyanne Daniels worked in the paint to finish 6-7 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line for 19 points.
The Lady Lions have pressured their opponents into 19.2 turnovers per game to obtain 21.1 points off turnovers. Southeastern continues to hold the top spot in the conference in turnover margin (+7.46) and assist/turnover margin (1.12). SLU improved to first in the conference in scoring defense (55.38) while ranking third in scoring margin (+12.69) and field goal percentage defense (36.1). Horne continues to stand third in the conference in field goal percentage (47.3) and fourth in scoring (15.2). The veteran and
Jalencia Pierre also rank second and third in assist/turnover ratio while Pierre also ranks third in steals (2.5 spg).
SFA closed out week of conference play 67-60 victory over UIW at home. The Ladyjacks have gained a six-game winning streak led by Faith Blackstone who ranks second in the conference in scoring with 15.9 points per game, finishing 53.6 percent from the field, while also leading the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. Blackstone has competed at a high level securing 13 games in double figures while shooting 42.9 percent from behind the arch and 73.4 percent from the free throw line. Avery VanSickle is another key contributor for SFA, adding in 14.3 points per game and 3.3 assists. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker (13.7 ppg) and Trinity Moore (11.2 ppg) are also key to the Ladyjacks' success this season as the teams leads the conference in scoring offense (81.0), scoring margin (+22.07) and field goal percentage (48.5).
New Orleans suffered a 64-62 loss to UTRGV to extend its 12-game losing streak this season. The Privateers secured 14 points in the paint, 12 fast break points and 11 points off turnovers in its loss against the Vaqueros. Senior Nora Francois leads New Orleans in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.7 points per game and 7.0 rebounds. Francois has gained 10 games in double figures this season. Jayla Kimbrough is another key contributor for the Privateers chipping in 12.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds. Alexis Calderon adds in 7.3 points per game and leads New Orleans with 4.8 assists per game and 2.5 steals.
Concluding Saturday's game, Southeastern will be back on the road travelling to Commerce, Tex. to face East Texas A&M Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday's game versus the Lions will be televised on ESPN+.
