HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team comes home for the first time in Southland Conference play this season as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas-Rio Grange Valley come to Hammond, America to kick off 2025.
 
The Lions (6-7, 0-2 SLC) take on the Islanders (8-6, 1-1 SLC) Saturday at 3:30 p.m., or about 30 minutes after the women's game ends, while the game against the Vaqueros (9-4, 1-1 SLC) tips off at 6 p.m. on Monday.
 
Both games will take place in the University Center and will be televised on ESPN+. A radio broadcast for both games will also be available, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org, or you can listen to the game on smart devices through the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneIn Radio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available through LionSports.net.
 
Saturday's game against A&M-Corpus Christi will be the All Abilities Game where the Lions help bring awareness and support to the disabled and special needs in the Hammond community. On Monday against UTRGV, we'll be Kickin' in the New Year and all fans are encouraged to show off their favorite footwear during the game.
 
Southeastern is looking to rebound from a tough outing against McNeese on Monday night. Sam Hines, Jr. and Kam Burton both scored 11 points in Monday's contest with Hines, Jr. adding six rebounds and Burton coming up with three steals.
 
Hines, Jr. remains SLU's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.2 points and 7.1 boards a game. He's still sitting above 50 percent shooting for the season at 51.3 percent.
 
Jakevion Buckley sits at 10.9 points per game while hitting 45.6 percent from the field. He still leads the team in assists at 4.3 per game and secures 3.9 rebounds a contest while his 1.8 steals per game is also the most on the squad.
 
Jeremy Elyzee and Burton both average 9.3 points per game. Elyzee hits 47.8 percent of his shots and grabs 4.6 rebounds per game while leading the team in blocks with 11 on the year. Burton is the team's top three-point shooter, having hit 31 shots from distance at a 40.8 percent clip while hitting on 42.4 percent on all shot attempts.
 
The Lions score 70.5 points per game while hitting 44.6 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from three-point range. SLU's opponents score 68.2 points per game while hitting 42.2 percent from the field and 29.3 percent from beyond the arc on the year.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended its 2024 with a 59-point win over NCAA Division III-institution Schreiner University. Jordan Roberts led the Islanders against the Mountaineers with 19 points. Garry Clark scored 13 points with nine rebounds while Damarion Dennis added 12 points in the win. The Islanders come to Hammond still looking for their first true road win of the season.
 
Clark is TAMUCC's lone double-digit scorer this season, averaging 14.5 points per game. He hits 60.9 percent of his shot attempts and is the team's leading rebounder as well at 6.2 boards per game.
 
Isaac Williams scores 9.6 points on 46.3 percent shooting and leads the team in assists with 3.3 per game. Owen Dease scores 9.2 points per game on 53.8 percent shooting while grabbing 4.6 rebounds per game. Roberts averages nine points on 43.9 percent shooting and has the most made threes on the team with 19 on the season.
 
The Islanders average 82.1 points per game while hitting 50.9 percent from the field as a team and 33.9 percent from three. TAMUCC opponents average 67.4 points per game and hit 41.2 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three.
 
UTRGV starts its weekend at New Orleans on Saturday, looking to extend a four-game win streak. It their last contest, the Vaqueros defeated Dallas Christian College, 88-44.
 
KT Raimey and Kwo Agwa both had double-doubles with Raimey scoring 20 points with 10 rebounds while Agwa had 10 points and 10 boards. DK Thorn scored 17 points while Howie Fleming, Jr. added 10 as well.
 
Raimey is UTRGV's top scorer at 13.8 points per game. He hits 42.2 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from three-point range while grabbing 2.6 rebounds a game.
 
Cliff Davis averages 13.1 points per game while hitting 40 percent from the field and has a team-best 46 made three-pointers on 40.7 percent from deep. He also secures 5.2 rebounds a game.
 
Thorn puts in 12.4 points per game on 42.3 percent shooting and 31.6 percent from three. He also grabs three rebounds a game.
 
Hasan Abdul Hakim averages 12.3 points while scoring on 50 percent of his shot attempts while leading the team in rebounding at 6.9 per game.
 
Trey Miller scores 9.8 points per game while leading the team in assists with 4.3 per game.
 
Fleming, Jr. scores 9.2 points per game while grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game.
 
The Vaqueros average 82.8 points per game while hitting 45.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. UTRGV opponents score 71.2 points per game while hitting 42.4 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Southeastern's road-heavy schedule picks back up as the Lions head back out for four-straight games after this two-game homestand.
