Kiefer Moves Up SLU All-Time Wins List

SLU head coach David Kiefer picked up his 80th win in his sixth season

SLU Men's Basketball Head Coach Ties Billy Kennedy for Fourth-Most Wins All-Time

HAMMOND, La. –Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball head coach David Kiefer continues his march up the all-time SLU career wins list, having picked up his 80th win as the Lions head man on Saturday, tying him for fourth-place.
 
The 86-63 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday moved Kiefer pulled him even with the other SLU head coach to win the Southland Conference Coach of the Year award, Billy Kennedy. Both Kennedy, who led the Lions to their lone NCAA Tournament appearance, and Kiefer reached 80 wins during their sixth season as Southeastern's head men's basketball coach.
 
Southeastern (12-8, 6-3 SLC) is currently riding a six-game win streak heading into Monday night's contest with Houston Christian (9-11, 6-3 SLC). During this win streak, Kiefer also surpassed the man who brought him to Hammond, America as an assistant coach more than a decade ago, Jay Ladner, for fifth-place. Ladner won 76 games while leading the SLU men's basketball program. Up next is Ken Fortenberry, whose SLU teams won 128 games in nine years under his guidance.
 
Sam Hines, Jr. has been the catalyst of the 12 wins this season's Lions have won, averaging 16.4 points on 51.7 percent shooting while grabbing 6.5 rebounds a game. Jakevion Buckley has been the main facilitator, scoring 13.1 points on 46.8 percent shooting while dishing out 4.1 assists per contest.
 
The Lions continue their four-game homestand on Monday night on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night as HCU comes to Hammond, America. Tip-off of Monday's game against the Huskies is set for 6 p.m., or about 30 minutes following the women's game, in the University Center.
 
All SLU faculty and staff will get free admission with a SLU ID, and will be recognized during the contest.
 
Monday's game will be televised on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast will be available, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org, or you can listen to the game on smart devices through the Lions Gameday Experience app or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available on LionSports.net.
