HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will return to action to face UIW Saturday at 1 p.m. to open its four-game home stretch in the University Center.
The game between Southeastern (14-3, 8-0 SLC) and the UIW Cardinals (10-7, 5-3 SLC) begins week five of league play against conference rivals. The Lady Lions will move on to face HCU (5-12, 2-6 SLC) Monday at 5:30 p.m. The contest against HCU was rescheduled due to the winter storm conditions.

SLU closed out week four of conference play 2-0 defeating East Texas A&M 57-44, before handling business against Northwestern State with a 66-57 victory on the road. Southeastern continues to lead the conference with an eight-game winning streak, while it also tied its longest streak under the helm of head coach
Ayla Guzzardo.
In its recent win over the Lady Demons, junior
Allasia Washington scored a career high 19 points with three steals. Washington finished shooting six-of-nine from the field, two-of-three from the three-point line and five-of-eight from the charity stripe to help in the victory.
Alexius Horne followed up with 16 points to secure 14 games in double-digits this season.
Jalencia Pierre contributed 10 points as the third Lady Lion in double figures, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 100.0 percent from the free throw line. SLU gained 30 points in the paint, 19 points off turnovers, and 33 bench points.
Southeastern remains focused on compounding its eight-game winning streak in league play led by Horne averaging 15.4 points per game, followed by
Cheyanne Daniels (9.0 ppg),
Taylor Bell (9.4 ppg), Washington (8.8 ppg), and Pierre (7.6 ppg). Horne ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage and scoring, shooting 48.7 percent from the field. Pierre has made an impact on both ends of the court, ranking second in assist/turnover ratio (2.13), third in steals (2.4 spg) and fourth in assists (4.0 apg). Daniels currently leads the league at the free throw line, shooting 90.70- percent.
The Lady Lions remain in the lead for scoring defense (56.18), assist/turnover ratio (1.12) and turnover margin (+7.71), forcing opponents into 19.8 turnovers a game. The Lady Lions rank third in scoring offense (69.29), scoring margin (+13.12), and field goal percentage (44.2).
UIW finished week four 2-0 at home with a 52-43 victory over UTRGV before defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 76-58. The Cardinals have withheld its position at fifth in the conference in scoring margin (+5.47) and field goal percentage (41.6). UIW also stands second in three-point field goal percentage defense (26.1) and rebounding margin (+4.47). The Cardinals are led by junior Jorja Elliott averaging 10.2 points per game and 3.0 rebounds. Elliott is shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from behind the arch, and claimed nine games in double figures. UIW also heavily relies on Brynn Lusby averaging 9.1 points per game to produce a spark with 5.0 rebounds. Raimi McCary contributes to the Cardinals' success with 8.5 points per game and leading the team with 6.5 rebounds. Graduate student Myra Bell also chips in 7.3 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.
Houston Christian gained its second conference win with a thrilling 67-64 victory over UTRGV at home. The Huskies secured the victory with an 18-9-point advantage in the third quarter of the contest over the Vaqueros, as Kayla Lorenz led the team with 15 points and five rebounds. HCU is led by sophomore guard Erin Macguire averaging 10.7 points per game, 2.6 assists, and has earned eight games in double figures. The Huskies also rely on Tiffany Tullis with five games in double digits, averaging 7.6 points per game and leading the team with 9.8 rebounds. Tullis ranks second in the conference in rebounding and tied for 11
th in blocked shots (0.69 bpg). Kierra Prim (6.6 ppg) alongside Victoria Dixon (6.1 ppg) are also major contributors for HCU this season.
