HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team secured two representatives on the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Collegiate Women's Soccer Team, which was released by the LSWA Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Curran was named Newcomer of the Year in a three-way tie after her exceptional performance this season in the net for Southeastern. The Brentwood, Texas native helped SLU gain three shutouts this season against McNeese, UIW and Nicholls. Curran quickly adjusted to make an immediate impact for the green and gold playing 1,246 minutes in the net with 67 saves and 1.37 goals against average. Curran protected the net for SLU with a 77.9 save percentage to secure six wins. In her first season with Southeastern, Curran has made a name for herself claiming SLC Newcomer of the Year at the end of the season.
Hannah McCord was also named among the state's elite to claim her first All-Louisiana honors with honorable mention. The senior led the Lady Lions in scoring with four goals, two assists and ten points for her final season with the green and gold. The San Francisco, California native consistently produced a spark for Southeastern throughout the season with two game winners over McNeese and UIW. With a breakout season, McCord was also named SLC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 8), selected to SLC All-Conference Second Team and SLC All-Academic First Team.
Xavier took home two of the individual awards as head coach Ashley Cordeiro was named the state's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Gold Nugget senior midfielder Luci Schroeder was named Louisiana Player for the second straight season. Sydney Cheesman from LSU alongside Samira Roper from Xavier also share the title of Newcomer of the Year with Curran. Jennifer Handy secured an individual award for ULM, being named Freshman of the Year.
The LSWA All-Louisiana Collegiate Women's Soccer team was voted on by the state's soccer media relations directors. Voters were not permitted to vote for their school's nominees.
