Southeastern Continues Non-Conference Road Swing

SLU spends week three of its non conference schedule in Florida to face Miami and FIU

HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will continue its four-game road stretch with two matches in Florida this week.
 
Southeastern starts off Thursday with a 5 p.m. match against the Miami Hurricanes at Cobb Stadium. The matchup between SLU (1-1-1) and Miami (2-2-1) will be televised on the ACC Network Extra.
 
SLU will face FIU (3-3) in a 9 a.m. match Saturday in Miami, Fla. at the Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium. Saturday's match will be aired on ESPN+. Live stats, provided by the hosts, can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
 
The Lady Lions defeated Jackson State 3-1 to claim their first win of the season on the road. Seniors Kelsey Fuller, Rylee Franklin and Katie Brown each contributed a goal in Saturday's win. SLU has scored four goals so far this season while gaining an average of nine shots on goal over opponents. The Lady Lions held the Tigers scoreless the entire second half of the match as Kendall Curran and Anna Blankenship split responsibility in the net to finish with two saves. Blankenship leads with a 67.0 percent goals against average and seven saves.
 
Miami secured a two-game winning streak last week after defeating Missouri and FIU at home. In Sunday's win, the Hurricanes scored off a one-touch pass from Ciara Alarcon to Giovana Canali to close out the match. Canali has scored all three of Miami's goals this season while averaging 66.7 percent of shots on goal. The Hurricanes have taken 42 shots in five matches and achieved 21 shots on goal. Redshirt freshman Claireese Foley handles the majority of the work in the net for Miami with 11 saves, four goals allowed and 1.00 goals against average.


FIU is returning from a two-game losing streak after falling 1-0 to Stetson and Miami last week. The Panthers recorded 20 shots in the last two matches with seven shots on goal. FIU has claimed eight goals this season led by senior Nikole Solis with three goals and one game winner. Panther's goalkeeper Valery Restrepo has started all six matches and collected 12 saves with 0.85 goals against average.
 
Concluding Saturday's matchup, Southeastern will close out its non conference schedule on the road against Tarleton State Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. The match will be televised on ESPN+.
