SLU Opens Conference Against McNeese

The Lady Lions are set to host McNeese in its conference opener Sunday at 6 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team returns to Strawberry Stadium for its conference opener to host McNeese in a 6 p.m. match Sunday evening.

The match between Southeastern (1-4-1) and the McNeese Cowgirls (3-6) will be televised on ESPN+. Live stats can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern is seeking to start off conference play on a good note after falling 2-1 to Tarleton State on the road earlier this week. SLU ended its non conference schedule against the Texans as senior Halli Roe recorded her first goal of the season to avoid the shutout.

Seven Lady Lions have connected in the net so far this season led by senior Kelsey Fuller with two goals. Southeastern finished its non conference slate aiming 57.9 percent of its shots on goal after the last six matches. Goalkeepers Kendall Curran and Anna Blankenship continue to split responsibility in the net with 27 combined saves. Curran leads with 15 saves around the net.

McNeese began the week with a 2-1 loss to Texas State at home. Freshman Grace Denison found the net for the first time this season in the 58th minute of the contest to cut into the deficit. The Cowgirls scored 11 goals throughout non conference led by veterans Salma Elhaimer, Kaile Kukaua and Morgan Schooley each with a pair of goals. McNeese has gained 11 assists off 57 shots. Senior Jackie Kelly has handled the majority of the responsibility in the net for the Cowgirls playing 753 minutes with 63 saves.

Youth sports teams are encouraged to wear their jerseys for Youth Sports Night and pack the stands. Fans are also encouraged to stay after the match to receive post-game autographs from the Lady Lions. Following Sunday's match, SLU will travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UIW Friday evening for a 7 p.m. contest. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
