2024 Southeastern Football Position Preview: Defensive Line

Scelfo touts depth on defensive front

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team enters the upcoming 2024 season with the necessary depth to be successful on the defensive line.

Southeastern head coach Frank Scelfo believes his Lions have the manpower up front to set the physical tone for the SLU defense.

"We know the importance of staying fresh the entire game on the defensive line," Scelfo said. "We'll rotate eight or nine guys at those spots and we feel like we have the depth to comfortably do that."

At defensive end, a return from injury and an impact newcomer bolsters a position that features several proven veterans.

"Shemar Pearl, Rowan Briggs and Josh Randall all return and we're excited about what they can do this fall," Scelfo stated. "Charles Hill comes back from injury and gives us another guy in that rotation. Warren Peeples is a newcomer that will help us right away with his length and athleticism."

Scelfo also cited several options at the defensive tackle spot.

"On the inside, Kaleb Proctor has really turned his game up and Peyton Anderson is back with another year of experience," Scelfo commented. "Dorian Davis is a guy who has come on and done a good job at that spot, as has Kadan Lewis."

All season ticket holders will be able to pickup their season tickets at the Football Season Ticket Pickup Party Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Strawberry Stadium. Refreshments will be available and fans who have not yet purchased season tickets will be able to do so at the event, which will not be held in conjunction with a Lion practice.

Southeastern opens the 2024 season with a 7 p.m. contest at Tulane Aug. 29 on ESPN+ and the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
