2024 Southeastern Football Position Preview: Wide Receivers

SLU enters 2024 with plenty of pass catching options

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team heads into the 2024 season with plenty of pass-catching options among a deep wide receiver corps.

Some key additions to a strong returning nucleus give Southeastern head coach Frank Scelfo high hopes for the Lion passing attack this fall.

"We needed some depth there and we were able to address that during the offseason with some key additions," Scelfo commented. "We're deeper and more talented at the wideout position than we were last season."

Southeastern's top returning pass catcher is Darius Lewis. As an All-Southland Conference selection last fall, the New Orleans native led SLU with 48 catches for 568 yards and four touchdowns.

"Darius has shown the ability to be explosive when he touches the ball and we're hoping to see that more often this fall," Scelfo said. "He's become a more confident player as he's developed here, so we're expecting big things from him."

Scelfo has been pleased with the development of his returners at the wideout position, while also citing two newcomers expected to have an immediate impact.

"Darius, Da'Shun Hugley, Jaylon Domingeaux, Corey Lorio and Jett Booker are all guys who have been here and have impressed us this fall," Scelfo stated. "We're also really excited about newcomers Brandon Hayes and Errol Rogers and what they're going to bring to the table."

All season ticket holders will be able to pickup their season tickets at the Football Season Ticket Pickup Party Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Strawberry Stadium. Refreshments will be available and fans who have not yet purchased season tickets will be able to do so at the event, which will not be held in conjunction with a Lion practice.

Southeastern opens the 2024 season with a 7 p.m. contest at Tulane Aug. 29 on ESPN+ and the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).

Southeastern Athletics Marketing and Student Promotions is offering SLU students an opportunity to travel to Tulane. Students wanting to make the ride to the Big Easy can pay their $5 deposit reserving their spot on the bus at the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office. The deposit will be refunded on the day of the trip. Those on the bus trip will receive free food and a ticket to the game versus the Green Wave.
