HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University senior Darius Lewis added to his growing list of preseason accolades Friday, when he was named to the Phil Steele FCS 2024 Preseason All-American Teams.
 
Lewis was a third team selection at punt returner, as he was on the FCS Football Central preseason All-American team released last month. At last month's Southland Conference Football Opening Drive, Lewis earned preseason All-SLC honors at wide receiver, punt returner and kick returner.
 
Last fall, the New Orleans native averaged 13.8 yards per punt return to lead the SLC and rank 10^th in all of FCS, while also leading SLU with 48 receptions for 568 yards and four touchdowns.
 
Lewis was joined on the Phil Steele preseason All-America teams by several Southland brethren. McNeese junior linebacker Micah Davey, Stephen F. Austin senior kicker Chris Campos, Nicholls senior offensive lineman Evan Roussel, SFA junior defensive lineman Edward Bobino III and Nicholls junior running back Jaylon Spears were also on the list.
 
Phil Steele also released its preseason All-SLC teams with Lewis joined by teammates Jhy Orgeron, Ivan Drobocky, Harlan Dixon, Brockhim Wicks and Donte' Daniels.
 
The Lions will complete their first week of practice Saturday at 9 a.m., when SLU puts on the full pads for the first time. Southeastern will practice at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday until the first day of school Aug. 21. From that point forward, the Lions will begin practicing at 3:50 p.m. on weekdays during the season.
 
Southeastern opens the 2024 season with a 7 p.m. contest at Tulane Aug. 29 on ESPN+ and the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
