HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team faces a challenging non conference slate followed by 20 Southland conference contests to complete the 2024-25 schedule released Tuesday afternoon.
Southeastern will look to continue to gain ground under eighth-year head coach Ayla Guzzardo, who has led the Lady Lions to four consecutive winning seasons.
SLU returns 10 letter winners from last season's roster that finished 19-12 overall and 10-14 in league play, including reigning SLC Defensive Player of the Year Jalencia Pierre. Five talented newcomers will also bolster the 2024-25 roster.
The Lady Lions open the 2024-25 season with a Nov. 4 home game versus Millsaps. Southern Miss (Nov. 15) and Spring Hill (Dec. 5) will also visit the University Center in non conference play.
Southeastern will hit the road for six games throughout its non conference schedule starting off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers Nov. 9. SLU's road contests will then include trips to Memphis (Nov. 19), Louisiana Tech (Nov. 24), and Miami for a two-day tournament hosted by the Hurricanes Nov. 29-30. Southeastern will travel to Houston (Dec. 8) to cap its final non conference game.
The Lady Lions open SLC play on the road at Nicholls (Dec. 18) before meeting up against McNeese (Dec. 21). The league road schedule sees Southeastern travel to new conference member SFA (Jan. 9), New Orleans (Jan. 11), Texas A&M-Commerce (Jan. 16), Northwestern State (Jan. 18), HCU (Feb. 6), UIW (Feb. 8), UTRGV (Jan. 27), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Mar. 1).
SLU opens its league home schedule versus conference newcomer UTRGV Jan. 2. The SLC home schedule includes stops from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 4), HCU (Jan. 23), UIW (Jan. 25), Lamar (Jan. 30), New Orleans (Feb. 1), McNeese (Feb. 13), Nicholls (Jan. 15), Northwestern State (Feb. 20) and Texas A&M-Commerce (Feb. 22).
The 2024-25 Southland Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament is set for March 10-13 at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
