HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team officially opened fall camp Monday morning at Strawberry Stadium.
 
With the official kickoff of the 2024 season exactly a month away, the Lions underwent their first day of preparations. SLU opened camp with the first of four split-squad practices that allow the Southeastern coaching staff to better evaluate the student-athletes and provide the team more individual instruction early in camp.
 
Seventh-year SLU head coach and two-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year Frank Scelfo was pleased with how the Lions came out of the gates.
 
"Both groups came out with great energy and that's always the most important thing we look for on the first day," Scelfo commented. "We did a nice job with our assignments with the second group making a few less mistakes than the first group. But the excitement and desire to be out here competing was evident in both groups and we can build on that moving forward."
 
Southeastern will practice at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday until the first day of school on Aug. 21. From that point forward, the Lions will begin practicing at 3:50 p.m. on weekdays during the season.
 
Southeastern opens the 2024 season with a 7 p.m. contest at Tulane Aug. 29 on ESPN+ and the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
