Freshman Thrower Gives SLU a Second Top-10 Finish at Prestigious Event

Day One Recap

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team got another top-10 finish at the prestigious Penn Relays, presented by Toyota, as Gabriel Lim scored a top finish in the javelin throw to highlight the second day of the event from Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lim was up first to start the day as part of the second flight of athletes to take part in the javelin throw. He opened strong, with his first throw going 57.59 meters (188'11") and placing him in sixth-place after the first set of throws for his flight. He would not be able to improve that mark with his second toss, which went 55.05 meters (180'7"), as he dropped back to 10th place in the overall standings. Needing a big mark to make the top-nine and qualify for the finals, he would unleash his longest throw of the day at 58.14 meters (190'9"), but it was not enough to improve his standing and his day came to an end after three throws, finishing in 10th place.

Southeastern's only other competitor of the day would be Donroy Brown in the shot put. But the day would not be kind for Brown as he faulted on all three of his throw attempts, failing to register a mark on the day.

The Lions return to action on Saturday for the final day of the Penn Relays, presented by Toyota, with Slavko Stevic and Lance Hamilton set to jump in the high jump and triple jump competitions, respectively. Stevic and the high jump competition is set to start at 11:30 a.m. EDT/10:30 a.m. CDT while the triple jump and Hamilton will begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. CDT.

The entirety of the Penn Relays, presented by Toyota, is being live streamed by FloSports while live results are also available through the host institution.
