HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University senior guard Hailey Giaratano and sophomore Jalencia Pierre earned Southland All-Conference awards in an announcement from the conference Saturday morning.
 
Giaratano was named to First Team All-Conference after leading the Lady Lions in scoring throughout conference play, averaging 12.4 points a game this season. The Ponchatoula native ended the regular season with a career high of 27 points and seven rebounds against UIW earning Player of the Week for the second time in her career. Giaratano led the conference in minutes played (35.5) while remaining among the top ten in the conference in assists (3.0 apg) this season. The senior collected 22 games in double figures with 12 in league play after earning ten consecutive games in double-digits during Southeastern's non-conference schedule. Giaratano reached 1,000 career points for the program and has recently broken the record in career games played (135) and free throw percentage (79.5).
 
Pierre was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year and named a part of the All-Defensive team in an undisputable decision by the conference for the 2023-24 season. The Lady Lions' best on ball defender collected 32 steals in conference play alone to obtain a total of 39 steals this season. Pierre stepped up for eight charges throughout the season and averaged 8.5 points per game to aid Southeastern in a seven-game winning streak at the start of league play. The Amite native showcased her ability to perform on both ends of the court, limiting many of the conference's best ball handlers while dishing out 79 assists this season. Pierre tied her career high of 21 points against conference rival McNeese with four steals. The sophomore also recorded a season high eight assists in the victory over Nicholls on the road. Pierre has earned All-Conference defensive recognition for the second year in a row at SLU.
 
The Lady Lions will matchup against the winner of the New Orleans Privateers and the Nicholls Colonels Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for the quarterfinals of the SLC Tournament. The 2024 Jersey Mike's SLC Tournament will be hosted at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, La. Tuesday's game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard online at www.LionSports/ListenLive.net.
