HAMMOND, La. – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team to a series win to open conference play, junior pitcher
Brennan Stuprich was named the Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
Stuprich earned his third SLC weekly honor of his career and second this month, as he previously claimed the honor March 4. All told, SLU (17-7, 2-1 SLC) has claimed four of the conference weekly awards in March, as
Jude Hall and
Justin Williams were named SLC Hitter of the Week March 4 and 18, respectively.
Stuprich and teammate
Jackson Rodriguez combined for a three-hit shutout in SLU's 5-0 victory at Northwestern State in Friday's conference opener. Stuprich tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering two hits and striking out five before giving way to Rodriguez for the final two frames.
The Kenner, Louisiana native is currently 2-2 with a 2.41 earned run average as the Lions' Friday night starter. Stuprich has tossed a team-high 33.2 innings, striking out 20 while walking just nine and holding opponents to a .200 batting average.
Southeastern will close out a four-game road swing Tuesday, traveling to reigning national champion LSU for a 6:30 p.m. contest in Baton Rouge. The game will be televised on SEC Network+ and can be heard on 90.9 The Lion.
