YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team earned a pair of shutout victories on day two of the Mardi Gras Mambo Friday afternoon at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Southeastern (3-0) opened the day with a 2-0 win over Providence (0-1) before closing the day with a 3-0 win over former Southland Conference foe UT Arlington (0-3).
In the opener,
Ellie DuBois (1-0) struck out four and held Providence to two hits in five shutout innings of work.
Chloe Bennett tossed two scoreless frames of her own in her Lady Lion debut to earn the save.
Bailey Krolczyk and
Audrey Greely led SLU at the plate with two hits apiece.
In the nightcap,
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (1-0) struck out four and limited UTA to four hits in six innings of scoreless work.
Cera Blanchard pitched the seventh to earn her first save of the season. Krolczyk hit her second home run of the season and
Maddie Watson added an RBI in the win over the Mavs.

Game One – Southeastern 2, Providence 0
DuBois cruised through the first two innings, before Providence put a pair on with one out in the top of the third inning. With a pair of runners in scoring position, the Shreveport, Louisiana native struck out Rachael Petrarca and forced Jacque Harrington to ground out to keep the game scoreless.
Southeastern finally got to Providence starter Riley Quirk (0-1) in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Quirk uncorked a wild pitch and pinch runner
Faith Kivett scored to give SLU a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions doubled their advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Chloe Magee was hit by a pitch with one out and scored one out later on an RBI double by Krolczyk.
The Friars put the leadoff runner aboard in their half of the seventh. But Bennett retired the next three batters to close out the victory.

The Lady Lions got all the offense it needed in the bottom of the first inning. One out after Magee beat out an infield single, Krolczyk launched a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence. The reigning Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year's towering shot staked SLU to a 2-0 lead.
Comeaux was never threatened by the Mavs, as the Port Allen, Louisiana product only allowed one runner in scoring position in her six innings of work. Southeastern added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maria Detillier hit the first pitch of the inning off the left field fence for a double and scored later in the frame on an RBI groundout by
Maddie Watson.
Blanchard worked around a two-out error to keep UTA off the board and extend SLU's scoreless inning streak to start the season to 19 innings.
