SLU Falls to South Alabama to Close Homestand

SLU (8-2) returns to action Thursday at Texas A&M Invitational

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team closed a four-game homestand with a 9-1 nonconference loss to South Alabama Tuesday evening at North Oak Park.

Southeastern (8-2) could not overcome four errors and suffered its first home loss of the season. South Alabama touched up four Lady Lion pitchers for 10 hits to improve to 8-2 overall.

Maria Detillier led the SLU offense with a double, while Maddie Watson, Audrey Greely and Cam Goodman each had hits for the Lady Lions. Brilee Broussard scored Southeastern's lone run.

South Alabama took advantage to a pair of Lady Lion errors in the top of the first inning, chasing SLU starter Ellie DuBois (4-1) from the contest and taking a 3-0 lead. Another Lady Lion error allowed South Alabama to score an unearned run in the top of the second inning, extending the advantage to 4-0.

Southeastern threatened in the bottom of the second inning, as singles by Madison Watson and Greely put a pair of runners on with one out. After Goodman bunted both runners into scoring position, USA starter Olivia Lackie (6-1) struck out Colleen Kulivan to end the Southeastern threat.

South Alabama broke open the game with two runs in the fifth, followed by a three-run sixth. Southeastern avoided the shutout in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Detillier and Bailey Krolczyk drew consecutive one-out walks, then Broussard scored one out later on a fielding error. Lackie bounced back to retire Greely and secure the run-rule victory.

Southeastern will now head to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational. Southeastern faces UTSA (2-8) Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and takes on the host Aggies (9-0) later in the day at 5:15 p.m. Thursday's game against Texas A&M can be seen on SEC Network+.

SLU will open Friday's action with an 11:30 a.m. contest versus St. Thomas (1-9), then matches up with North Dakota State (6-6) at 2 p.m. The Lady Lions' tournament slate wraps up with a 9 a.m. contest versus St. Thomas Saturday.
