Last Week's Performance Adds New Accolades to SLC Player of the Week Award from Monday

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team member Nick Caldwell picked up two more weekly honors, including a national award, as he was named Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and one of five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, it was announced on Tuesday.

Caldwell, a senior guard/forward from Prairieville, La., averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds in wins over Texas A&M-Commerce and Houston Christian which led him to winning his second-straight Southland Conference Player of the Week award on Monday, prior to being named the LSWA Player of the Week as well as an Oscar Robertson USBWA National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In last Monday's win at Texas A&M-Commerce, Caldwell recorded his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Southland's other Lions. He tied his career high in five blocks in the win while his free throws with 8.1 seconds left to tie the score and force overtime where SLU took the victory on a game-winning floater by Roger McFarlane with three seconds left in the extra period.

He followed that up with his second double-double in a row, and second of the season, in Saturday's home win over Houston Christian. He scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while hitting 70% from the field, including both of his three-point attempts, none bigger than the three-pointer with 3.9 seconds left to break a 78-78 tie and secure an 81-78 victory over the Huskies. He was also a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line in the win over HCU.

Caldwell and the Lions (13-14, 8-6 SLC) look to rebound from an overtime loss to Lamar on Monday night, where Caldwell became the first SLU player to score 30 points in a game in two seasons while getting his third-straight double-double, on Saturday as Southeastern looks to complete a season sweep of New Orleans. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Privateers (8-19, 3-11 SLC) is set for 3:30 p.m. in the Pride Roofing University Center in Hammond, America, a game which will be sponsored by the North Oaks Health System. Saturday's game against UNO will be live streamed on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast also available, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area, worldwide at LionSports.net/ListenLive and LionUpRadio.org, or on smart devices on the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneIn Radio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available at LionSports.net.
