Lions Head to Lafayette for Date with Ragin’ Cajuns

HAMMOND, La. The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team plays the penultimate game of its 10-game road trip on Wednesday as the Lions look to get back in the win column as the team heads across the Atchafalaya Basin to take on Louisiana-Lafayette in the Cajundome.
 
Tip-off of Wednesday's contest between the Lions (4-5, 0-0 SLC) and Ragin' Cajuns (1-8, 0-0 Sun Belt) is set for 7 p.m.  and it will be televised on ESPN+. A radio broadcast will also be available, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area and worldwide on LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org, or you can listen to the game on smart devices through the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneIn Radio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats will also be available through the host institution.
 
Southeastern is looking to rebound following a tough 67-64 defeat to Nicholls in its Southland Conference opener last Thursday, a game where neither team led by more than seven points. That was the second straight game for SLU where neither team had a double-digit lead at any point in the contest.
 
Sam Hines, Jr., Jakevion Buckley, and Brody Rowbury all scored 13 points against Nicholls. Hines, Jr. added 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season while Rowbury's 13 points tied his season-high in scoring.
 
Hines, Jr. is the team's top scorer at 14.1 points per game while hitting 46.7 percent of his shot attempts, including 35.3 percent on three-pointers. He also secures a team-high 7.8 rebounds a game and his 2.9 assists per game is the second-best on the team.
Buckley is the next top scorer for the Lions, averaging 12.8 points per game while also hitting 46.7 percent from the field. His 4.1 assists per game leads the Lions, as does his two steals per game. He also gets 3.2 rebounds a contest.
 
Jeremy Elyzee is the final double-digit scorer of the season so far for Southeastern, averaging 10.1 points per game while hitting a team-best 53.2 percent from the field and hits 42.9 percent from deep. He collects 5.3 rebounds a game and leads the Lions in blocked shots with eight on the year.
 
Kam Burton continues to be the top sharpshooter for SLU this season, averaging 9.3 points per game while hitting 21 three-point field goals so far this season. He's hitting 42.9 percent from the field and 42 percent from long range.
 
The Lions average 70.3 points per game this season on 43.7 percent shooting and 34.1 percent from three-point range as a unit this season. SLU's opponents average 68.1 points per game while connecting on 41.7 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Louisiana-Lafayette is looking to end a seven-game skid while still searching for its first win against a Division I opponent this season. This is the second of four contests this season against Southland foes for the Ragin' Cajuns, who have already dropped a 76-75 decision to the Nicholls Colonels while Lamar and McNeese are still to come. Wednesday's contest is the third of six-straight games in the Cajundome for UL-Lafayette.
 
The Cajuns are coming off of a 69-58 defeat at the hands of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sunday. Kentrell Garnett led the way for UL-Lafayette against LA Tech with 23 points, including five made three-pointers and was the only Ragin' Cajun to hit double-digits in points against the Bulldogs. Kyndall Davis, Michael Thomas, and Zeke Cook all had seven points in the contest.
 
Mostapha El Moutaouakkil is UL-Lafayette's top scorer this season, averaging 11.4 points per game. He hits 42.4 percent from the field while grabbing 3.9 rebounds a game on the year.
 
Christian Wright scores 11.2 points per game, connecting on 42.1 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three-point distance. He also gives out 2.2 assists per game and grabs 1.8 rebounds a contest.
 
Garnett averages 8.8 points per game following his outburst against LA Tech. He hits 43.1 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three as his 15 made threes this season leads the Ragin' Cajuns. His 2.3 assists per game leads UL-Lafayette this season.
 
Kyran Ratliff is the top rebounder for the Cajuns, averaging 4.6 a contest.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns score 68.4 points per game on the year while hitting 42.5 percent of their shot attempts from the field and 30.9 percent from three-point distance. UL-Lafayette's opponents are averaging 80.4 points per game this season while hitting 48.3 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Following the trip to Lafayette, the Lion wrap up their 10-game road trip on Monday as the team heads to Grambling to take on Grambling State before coming home for the final game prior to the Christmas break to take on Loyola.
