Pierce's Pick Six Garners SLC Weekly Honors

SLU senior honored for efforts in 30-27 overtime win at Lamar

HAMMOND, La. – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana University football team to a dramatic 30-27 overtime win over Lamar, SLU defensive back Coryell Pierce was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
 
Pierce's selection marked the fourth straight week a Lion has earned SLC weekly honors. Brandon Hayes was named Special Teams Player of the Week Oct. 28, while Darius Lewis was Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 21 and Special Teams Player of the Week Oct. 14. Earlier this fall, Antonio Martin Jr. was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 30.
 
With the Lions trailing 7-0 early in the second quarter, Pierce stepped in front of a Robert Coleman pass and returned the interception 50 yards for a touchdown. Finishing with five tackles for the game, the New Orleans native was a key part of a Southeastern defensive effort that held the host Cardinals to 94 total yards after halftime.
 
Pierce leads SLU with two interceptions on the season. He currently is fourth on the team with 54 tackles from his safety position. His pick six Saturday was the first defensive touchdown for the Lions in 2024.
 
SLU will return to Strawberry Stadium to close out its regular season home slate with a 6 p.m. contest Saturday versus Northwestern State. Approximately 30 minutes prior to kickoff, the Lions will honor the senior class of Pierce, Donte' Daniels, Darius Lewis, Keydrain Calligan, Warren Peeples, Khamron Ford, Errol Rogers Jr., Ivan Drobocky, Shemar Pearl, Brockhim Wicks, Javin Turner, Jhy Orgeron and Austin Kent in a special Senior Day ceremony.
 
The contest versus the Demons will also be Military Appreciation Night. All military personnel with valid ID can present their ID at gate 2 to receive a free general admission ticket.
 
The Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office will be collecting nonperishable food items for the Southeastern Food Pantry. Fans can donate 2-3 food items at the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office prior to Saturday's game versus visiting NSU in exchange for a general admission ticket to the contest. No exchanges will be made on game day. The SLU Ticket Office is located on the west side of Strawberry Stadium and is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – noon.
