SLU Plays in Miami Thanksgiving Tournament

The Lady Lions face Quinnipiac in the opening day of the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament in Coral Gables, Fla.

MIAMI, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will return to action in the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament to face Quinnipiac Friday evening at 5 p.m. Central in the Watsco Center.
 
The game between Southeastern (4-1) and Quinnipiac (5-0) will be the second game of the opening day of the tournament. Southeastern extended a three-game winning streak after a 59-47 victory over Louisiana Tech on the road. SLU came out to a hot start against the Lady Techsters to control the majority of the game with 36 points in the paint, 22 points off turnovers and 16 bench points. The Lady Lions shot 50.0 percent from the field led by senior Taylor Bell with 16 points and two steals. Alexius Horne and Cheyanne Daniels followed up in double figures tied with 10 points as Jalencia Pierre finished with a season high six rebounds.
 
SLU is looking to continue to make a statement on the road led by Horne with 15.6 points per game and 4.0 rebounds. Bell adds 10.6 points per game alongside Southeastern's other major contributors in Daniels (10.6 ppg), Lexi Alexander (9.2 ppg), and Arianna Patton (8.8 ppg). The Lady Lions have secured big wins on the road with their tenacious defense, forcing opponents into 20.6 turnovers per contest to capitalize on 23 points per game.
 
Quinnipiac gained a 61-53 win over Maine on the road to remain undefeated so far throughout its non-conference schedule. The Bobcats finished the game with two players in double digits led by sophomore Anna Foley with 20 points, seven assists and eight rebounds. Senior guard Jackie Grisdale followed up with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists for her third game in double figure scoring.
 
Grisdale leads Quinnipiac averaging 14.0 points per game with 3.6 rebounds. Sophomore Karson Martin is also a major contributor averaging 14.2 points per game and 3.4 rebounds. Gal Raviv (13.4 ppg) and Anna Foley (11.6 ppg) are also heavily relied on as Foley leads the team in assists (4.0 apg) and rebounds (6.8 rpg). Williams (9.4 ppg) and Jasmyne Roberts (9.2 ppg) are also key to Miami's success this season alongside Darrione Rogers (9.0 ppg).
 
With a win over Quinnipiac, Southeastern will move on to face the winner of Miami (5-0) versus Charlotte (3-3) Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. In the event that Miami secures a victory over Charlotte, the game versus the Hurricanes will be televised on the ACC Network Extra and ESPN+.
 
The Miami Hurricanes (5-0) are also undefeated and gained a 71-66 victory over Campbell at home. Cameron Williams led Miami versus the Lady Camels with 20 points and seven rebounds, shooting 90.0 percent from the field. Haley Cavinder followed up with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win. Cavinder leads the Hurricanes in scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 15.4 points per game and 6.0 rebounds.
 
Charlotte is seeking to compound its winning streak after securing an 83-67 victory over Gardner-Webb at home. Ashley Hawkins led Charlotte with 19 points, shooting 5-8 from the field and 3-4 from the three-point line. Hayleigh Breland leads the team in scoring and rebounding this season with 12.2 points per game and 6.0 rebounds. Kay Kay Green and Keanna Rambert follow up tied with 8.2 points per game. Charlotte averages 62.0 points per game and 38.3 rebounds versus opponents this season.
 
Concluding Sunday's game, SLU will return to Hammond, America to take on Spring Hill at 11 a.m. The Lady Lions invite schools from around the area to bring their students for an unforgettable day of basketball to support the green and gold.
