HAMMOND, La. – After keying Southeastern Louisiana University's 19-16 win over Nicholls in the River Bell Classic, Lion linebacker KK Reno and kicker Riley Callaghan were among the final Southland Conference Football Players of the Week of the 2024 season, the league office announced Monday.
 
Reno was named the SLC Defensive Player of the Week. The New Iberia, Louisiana native is the second SLU player to earn that honor this fall, joining teammate Coryell Pierce, who won the award Nov. 4.
 
Callaghan was named the SLC Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his career. Callaghan joins a 2024 Southeastern list of winners of that accolade that includes the dynamic return tandem of Darius Lewis (Oct. 14) and Brandon Hayes (Oct. 30).
 
Reno led the SLU defense with nine tackles and a forced fumble in Thursday's victory. With the score tied at 16-16 with under five minutes to play, Reno picked off Nicholls quarterback Pat McQuaide to end a potential go-ahead Colonel drive.
 
Reno's pick set up the game-winning scoring drive and Callaghan was the hero at the end of the game-ending march, walking off the game with a 40-yard field goal on the final play.  The Ashburn, Virginia connected on all four of his field goal attempts Thursday and finished the season with a school record-tying 17 made field goals.
 
Reno and Callaghan were both key factors in SLU winning six of its final seven games on the way to a 7-5 overall mark and 6-1 conference record. Southeastern narrowly missed its sixth NCAA FCS playoff appearance, as the Lions were listed as one of the last four teams out of the 24-team field on the selection show Sunday.
