HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team's
Hannah McCord and
Halli Roe claimed Southland Conference Weekly Honors, as released by the conference Tuesday morning.
McCord, a native of San Francisco, California, was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance this weekend. So far this season, McCord has started all five conference matches and leads the team with four goals, nine points and two game winners. The weekly award is the first of McCord's career.
The senior midfielder launched a goal Friday to create a spark of momentum for SLU with an early 1-0 lead over the reigning two-time Southland Conference champions Lamar. In the eighth minute of the match, McCord recorded her fourth goal of the season to secure a season high. McCord also helped Southeastern gain its biggest win in league play. The Offensive Player of the week also played 180 minutes over the weekend and contributed the assist for the game winner over Northwestern State.
Roe, a native of Humble, Texas, claimed SLC Defensive Player of the Week after netting the game winner over Northwestern State in the 60
th minute of the contest. The senior defender helped the Lady Lions regain the advantage over the Lady Demons with a flawlessly executed counter attack Sunday afternoon. Roe played a crucial role in Southeastern's back line of defense over the weekend and earned her second goal of the season. This award is the first of Roe's career.
This past weekend was also highlighted by the Lady Lions' shift into first place of SLC standings after finishing undefeated in its pair of home matches. SLU has improved to 4-1 in conference play. The veterans are the first pair of Lady Lions to receive weekly honors this season.
Southeastern will be back on the road, traveling to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. Friday's match will be televised on ESPN+. Live stats, provided by the hosts, can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at
