HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team looks to build off a run to the Southland Conference Tournament semifinal to end 2024 as it announces its 2025 schedule on Tuesday, featuring 30 home games.
"We are really excited about the schedule this spring," said SLU head baseball coach
Bobby Barbier, entering his second season as the Lions' skipper. "There are some new opponents that we have not played in a while mixed in with some of the usual regional opponents. We also look forward to competing against the new teams in the league."
2025 starts with a team Southeastern has not played before in its history as Lindenwood University makes the trip down from St. Louis to Hammond, America for a four-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, beginning Feb. 14.
That series starts a stretch of games at The Pat to open the season as 11 of SLU's first 12 games will be played at home. Following the series against Lindenwood, the Tulane Green Wave come up from New Orleans for a midweek contest Feb. 19 and then Alcorn State makes the ride from Mississippi for a three-game weekend set, running from Feb. 21-23.
The lone road game for the Lions during the first dozen games sees Southeastern make the trip across the Atchafalaya Basin for a Feb. 26 contest at UL Lafayette. SLU returns home that weekend to open SLC play as Northwestern State comes down from Natchitoches for a three-game tilt set for Feb. 28-March 2.
Seven of the next eight games will see Southeastern on the road, starting on March 4 as the Lions head to Oxford for its first meeting with Ole Miss in three years, and then it's up to Tennessee for the final non-conference weekend series of the season, taking on Memphis for a three-game series March 7-9.
Back in Hammond, Xavier comes up from New Orleans March 12 for a midweek game for the second season in a row. The Lions then pack up for its first SLC road series of 2025, making the trip to Nacogdoches, Texas for the first meeting with Stephen F. Austin in its return to the conference.
Six-straight games at The Pat follow, starting with the MVSU Delta Devils coming to town on March 18, followed by the return trip by ULL the next night. McNeese makes the ride up from Lake Charles for a SLC weekend series which runs March 21-23. The homestand ends on March 25 with the LSU Alexandria Generals visiting Hammond.
The month of March ends with the Lions in the Crescent City for the Pontchartrain Bowl series against New Orleans March 28-30. April begins with the Lions ending the quick road trip by going to Mobile to take on South Alabama April 1.
UIW comes to Hammond for the next SLC series, running from April 4-6 at The Pat with April 5 serving as Super Lion Saturday. Then it's back on the road for four-straight, beginning with a ride back into New Orleans for the return game against Tulane April 8. That's followed by an SLC series April 11-13 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
April 15 starts a five-game homestand with a game against Southern Miss at The Pat. After that is a three-game series April 17-19 against the other SLC newcomer in UTRGV as the Vaqueros make their first trip to Hammond, America since 2003. The homestand ends with the Dillard Bleu Devils in Hammond April 22.
SLU makes the return trip to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a date with the USM Golden Eagles on April 23, kicking off a five-game road trip. The Lions then head to Houston for the final trip into Texas for the regular season, facing HCU in a three-game SLC set April 25-27. Southeastern ends the trip with an April 29 nonconference contest at SU
The final SLC home series of the season opens the month of May as Lamar comes to The Pat May 2-4. The final home game of the season is two days later as South Alabama finishes the home-and-home season series with the Lions. The regular season comes to a close with the final SLC series of the season which will see Southeastern down in Thibodaux for three games against reigning Southland Conference champion Nicholls May 8-10.
The Southland Conference Baseball Championship will have a new look in 2025, now spanning two weekends. The first weekend will see the eight qualifying teams broken up into two brackets for two separate four-team, double-elimination tournaments hosted by the top two seeds in the conference standings.
The two teams that win the brackets advance to the second weekend, a best-of-three-game series held at the highest remaining seed to determine the 2025 SLC Champion and who gets the automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals. The two-weekend format returns after being used in 2022, when the Lions hosted and won one four-team bracket at the No. 2 seed and then defeated top-seeded McNeese in the first-ever SLC Tournament series.
