HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will return to the road Saturday, traveling to Lamar for a 3 p.m. Southland Conference contest in Provost Umphrey Stadium.

Southeastern will be looking to bounce back after ts first Southland Conference loss last Saturday, falling to No. 10/11 UIW, 34-31, when kicker Riley Callaghan's game-tying 58-yard field goal try narrowly missed wide left.

The Lion offense is led by quarterback Eli Sawyer, who has thrown for 1,269 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions on the season.

Sawyer's top target in the passing game has been Darius Lewis, who is second in FCS with 62 receptions on the season. Lewis, who has a team-high 539 yards, shares the team lead with Cade Collier and Brandon Hayes with two touchdown catches each.

Lewis is not the only member of the Southeastern offense that ranks among the national leaders. Antonio Martin Jr. is currently fourth in FCS with 992 rushing yards and is on the verge of becoming the seventh player in program history to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a season. The Atlanta native also tops the SLC with eight rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, KK Reno tops the team with 72 tackles, followed by Donte' Daniels (62), Khamron Ford (57), Coryell Pierce (49) and Kaleb Proctor (36). Warren Peeples is the team's top pass rusher with five sacks.

Hayes was named SLC Special Teams Player of the Week Monday after his 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown versus UIW. Hayes is 14th nationally with 26.4 yards per kickoff return, while Lewis is third in FCS with 16.1 yards per punt return, giving SLU one of the nation's top return tandems.

Callaghan has shaken off his early season struggles and has connected on 10-of-15 field goals on the season. Alec Mahler leads the Lions with a 42.8 punting average.

Lamar enters Saturday's game on a two-game winning streak. The Cardinals overwhelmed Northwestern State, 42-10, last Saturday in Natchitoches.

Robert Coleman has handled the majority of the work under center for Lamar, throwing for 1,179 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Sevonne Rhea (26 catches, 460 yards, 5 TD) is Coleman's top target.

Saturday's game will feature the top two rushers in the Southland Conference, as LU's Khalan Griffin is second to SLU's Martin Jr. with 892 yards on the ground this season.

Ken Savanah leads the Lamar defense with 56 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks. Dejuan Lewis leads the SLC with three interceptions. Punter Chase Leon averages 45.0 yards per punt to lead the Lamar special team efforts.

Southeastern is 13-5 all-time versus the Cardinals. Lamar snapped a five-game losing streak in the series matchup with a 30-24 last season in Hammond.

Following Saturday's contest, SLU will return home to close out its regular season home slate with a 6 p.m. contest Nov. 9 versus Northwestern State. Approximately 30 minutes prior to kickoff, the Lions will honor the senior class of Daniels, Ford, Pierce, Lewis, Peeples, Keydrain Calligan, Errol Rogers Jr., Ivan Drobocky, Shemar Pearl, Brockhim Wicks, Javin Turner, Jhy Orgeron and Austin Kent in a special Senior Day ceremony.
