HAMMOND, La. – After scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Southeastern Louisiana University football team's 24-23 win over Stephen F. Austin, SLU wide receiver Darius Lewis was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
 
Lewis earned Southland Conference weekly recognition for the second straight week after earning SLC Special Teams Player of the Week honors last Monday. The New Orleans native is the second Lion to be named Southland Offensive Player of the Week this season, joining teammate Antonio Martin Jr., who claimed the award Sept. 30.
 
Lewis hauled in a three-yard scoring pass from Eli Sawyer with two seconds remaining to cap a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive and allow SLU (4-4, 3-0 SLC) to remain unbeaten in league play.
 
The dramatic finish was a fitting capper to a career night for Lewis, who finished with a career-high 11 catches – tied for the fifth-most in a game in program history – for 96 yards and a touchdown.
 
In his final season in Hammond, Lewis leads Southeastern with 53 catches for 485 yards. He currently ranks seventh nationally in receptions per game (6.6) and is fourth in FCS with a 17.0 punt return average.
 
Lewis and the Lions will host UIW next Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The game with the visiting Cardinals will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
 
Saturday's game versus UIW will also be a Gold Out, as fans are encouraged to wear their best gold Southeastern gear to the contest. The game versus the Cardinals will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. Southeastern faculty and staff can present their ID at the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office to receive a free general admission ticket for SLU's matchup with the Cardinals. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – noon.
