Southeastern Closes Three-Game Road Stretch Against HCU

The Lady Lions face HCU Sunday at 3:30 p.m. for its final conference match on the road

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team returns to play against HCU at Sorrel Field Sunday evening at 3:30 p.m. in its final road game of conference play.

The match between Southeastern (6-6-1, 5-2 SLC) and the HCU Huskies (3-8-5, 1-3-3 SLC) will be televised on ESPN+. Live stats, provided by the host, can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern is seeking to extend its winning streak after defeating Nicholls 2-0 in the Crystal Cup rivalry series last weekend. The Lady Lions gained their third shutout of the season as Hailie Yoder and Maggie Denison found the net to secure the victory.

SLU gained a second half surge of momentum in the 52nd minute of the match as Yoder connected in the net for the first time this season. Southeastern claimed the first goal of the match as Katie Brown and Kelsey Fuller set up Yoder with the assist. Denison followed up in the 81st minute of the contest and soared a shot past the Colonels goalkeeper to extend Southeastern's late second half lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Curran protected the net for the entire duration of the match and finished with one save.

Eight Lady Lions have connected in the net so far this season led by senior Hannah McCord with four goals. Curran has maintained responsibility in the net with 43 saves and holds a 78.2 save percentage against opponents.

HCU began the week with a split decision against the reigning Southland Conference champions Lamar. Neither team was able to get on the board, but the Huskies 4-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities. HCU has scored 14 goals this season led by sophomore Olivia Rossman with four goals. Rossman is tied with Alexa Huerta, who is also a key contributor for the team, with 12 shots on goal this season. Huerta also leads the team with three assists. Freshman Emmy McKeon handles the majority of the responsibility in the net for the Huskies, playing 1, 247 minutes, with 70 saves and 1.23 goals against average.

With a win over HCU, the Lady Lions clinch an early spot in the Southland Conference Soccer Tournament. Following Sunday's match, SLU will return to Hammond, America to face new conference member UTRGV Friday evening at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+. Southeastern welcomes all former players back to the pitch to celebrate its Alumni Game in Strawberry Stadium. All former players will be recognized during halftime of the match. SLU also welcomes all of its players' family and friends to Parents Weekend.
