Lady Lions Sweep UNO, Win 20th-Straight SLC Match

SLU Wins 11th-Straight Match, 23rd-Straight Match vs. SLC Foes in All Competitions

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The reigning, two-time Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team picked up its 20th-straight win in SLC play with a dominant 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-13) sweep of the New Orleans Privateers Tuesday night at UNO's Human Performance Center.

Both Cicily Hidalgo and Alexis Logarbo scored team-high nine kills on efficient hitting percentages with Logarbo hitting at a .643 clip while Hidalgo was right at a .500 clip. Hidalgo ended the night with 10.5 points, adding three block assists to her kill total while also accumulating 10 digs. Logarbo finished the night with 10 points with two block assists to go with her kills.

Hannah Brewer was the team's top scorer with 11.5 points, finishing the match with eight kills, three aces, and a block assist.

Southeastern (11-4, 3-0 SLC) was efficient as a team, hitting .378 in the match on 42 kills with 11 errors on 82 total attacks. The Lady Lions also had six service aces and eight blocks on the evening. UNO (2-12, 0-2 SLC) finished the night with a team .133 hitting percentage, collecting 28 kills with 17 errors on 83 total attacks. The Privateers had one service ace and four blocks for points during the match.

SLU set the tone of the night right at the start with Brewer opening the match's scoring with a kill which started a 6-0 Lady Lion run with Logarbo putting down a kill for the 6-0 Southeastern lead. Leading 7-2, another kill by Logarbo started a run of four-straight Lady Lion points which put SLU up 11-2 on a service ace by Keira Beverly.

After the two teams traded points, with an India Bennett kill putting the Lady Lions up 12-3, UNO went on its biggest run of the night as the Privateers scored the next six points to tighten the score back up to 12-9 before a UNO serve went into the net to get Southeastern the serve back. SLU answered by scoring five of the next six points with a Kyra McKelvey kill putting the Lady Lions up 17-10. From there, Southeastern needed 13 rallied to get the eight points needed to finish the set as a kill by Hidalgo gave SLU a 25-15 set victory and a 1-0 lead in the match.

Beverly scored a kill to open the second set and then a service error tied the score up at 1-1, but that's where SLU took over the second set as the Lady Lions scored the next five points to go up 6-1 on a Privateer attack error.

UNO rallied, scoring six of the next nine points to cut the Southeastern lead down to 9-7, but a Privateer service error sent SLU on a 5-1 run to push the advantage back out to 14-8 following a kill by Logarbo.

Leading 17-12, the Lady Lions made sure there would be no chance for a UNO comeback as a Privateer service error started a run of five-straight Southeastern points with a McKelvey attack pulling a UNO defender into the net for a 22-12 SLU lead. UNO battled to the end, as it took nine rallies from there to hit the magic number, bit the Lady Lions would put the set away as an Anne Brauckmiller kill gave Southeastern a 25-18 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Privateers got its first lead of the match by scoring the first point of the third set, but a UNO serve error and a Beverly kill put Southeastern in front, 2-1. The teams traded the next three points, but a kill by Hidalgo started a 9-1 SLU run to pull away as a kill by Kibi Huggins gave the Lady Lions a 12-4 lead.

UNO pulled back to within five points at 16-11, but a kill by Hidalgo started the final push for Southeastern, kicking off a 6-0 run with a kill by Bennett putting the Lady Lions up 22-11. It took five rallies from there for the Lady Lions to wrap up their 20th-straight Southland Conference win as Huggins scored another kill for the 25-13 win in the third set to complete the sweep.

Along with being the team's 20th-straight in-conference win, Tuesday's win also represents the team's 11th win in a row overall and 23rd-straight win over SLC foes, a streak which includes two wins in the SLC Tournament and a win over a conference opponent in a non-conference match earlier this season.

The Lady Lions are back in action on Thursday night in Lake Charles to take on McNeese. Opening serve of Thursday's match against the Cowgirls (4-9, 0-1 SLC) is set for a 6:30 p.m. start in the Legacy Center. The match will be televised on ESPN+ with live stats also available.
