HAMMOND, La. – After recording the highest single-game tackle total by a Lion in three seasons, Southeastern Louisiana University sophomore defensive back Ian Goodly was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
 
Goodly received his first weekly honor during his SLU career. In last Saturday's 48-7 season-opening loss at Mississippi State, the Covington, Louisiana native led all players with 15 tackles (eight solo). The tackle total was the most in a game by a Southeastern defender since former Lion Alexis Ramos was credited with 16 tackles in the 2020 (Spring 2021) season finale at Southern Illinois.
 
Goodly and the Lions will travel to South Alabama for a 4 p.m. contest Saturday in Mobile, Alabama in the second of three straight road games for Southeastern to start 2023. The Lions-Jaguars tilt will be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
